any idea which airline. Sheez - can fly from Sydney to Melbourne, stay in hotel and still cheaper to fly from Melb than Sydney.

And someone in adelaide is going to pay a $1000 rather than fly from Melbourne - they could almost Pay for a cab ride from adelaide

apart from those anomalies looks like a good deal

    • haha, yes, i saw that and thought it was ridiculous… $60 for a flight from Adelaide - Melbourne rather than $1000 extra

  • Would love to know which airline this is. What are the dates?

  • dayam, thats good

  • It is AirAsia

  • Tiger air? lol

    Just rang.
Its Air Asia and flying in Feb next year. (Perth).

  • That explains the other fares - except Adelaide! Add $500 for a return ticket from Sydney to Perth for example, whereas MEL-PER is cheaper. Given that, though, fares from Sydney with full service carriers haven't been much more so would be preferable, though discounted ones haven't been released in Feb yet.

Hmm, why you would book AirAsia fares through Flight Centre, I don't know. Check prices and availability through:

As a point of reference, sale fares from Gold Coast & Melbourne to London via AirAsia have been ~ $650 return inclusive of tax (w/o checked luggage and meals, ++). You may have remembered their earlier AU -> Kuala Lumpur sales for $150 return inclusive; well, that's how crazy it gets. Consider signing up to AirAsia's email newsletter as they tend to have these sales 2-3 times a year and smaller sales in between (eg. Melbourne - Kuala Lumpur one way for $150 inclusive, still a great price).

AirAsia flies out of Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth. The considerably higher fares ex. other cities suggests to me that Flight Centre is either a) putting passengers on premium flights connecting to Gold Coast (OOL), MEL or PER, or b) flying them premium to Kuala Lumpur to connect to the London-bound AA leg. As previously noted, it's hard to justify the fare difference between ADL and MEL when they're a $40 Tiger fare apart.

I recommend doing your homework first and/or waiting for a "real" AA sale. It seems strange that FC should be charging for AA flights as in the same price bracket as full-service airlines, as AA is certainly not one of these. You pay for your own food, drink, entertainment and luggage and the stopover in KL may not be as convenient as it would be if you were flying Qantas or Singapore Airlines.

    Here's a review of AirAsia's Melbourne - London service: http://blog.adioso.com/review-melbourne-to-london-with-airas…

    Good luck!

    • Good summary of the pricing situation

      Just a clarification

AA in airline speak means American Airlines

AK is the Code for Airasia

      • Good point! Will be careful with that one :)

  • Not a bad deal, but as always, it works out cheaper if you book the legs yourself.

If you can get a cheap Air Asia/Tiger flight to Singapore or KL, there are super cheap fares avaliable to europe from there…

But remember, Air Asia is a Point-to-Point airline and they do not accept responsibility for missed and/or delayed flights, even if there are multiple legs on each itinerary.

If you have inclusive travel insurance, and ensure that any such incidents would be covered works well.
