No, but be careful about CHEAPEST.
GoDaddy for example usually has really cheap domain names ($10), BUT as soon as you actually try to set up the DNS zone so that you can direct stuff to your web site/mail host whatever, you will need to BUY their OPTIONAL DNS Zone Manager costing an additional $30 or so.
In the end I have had three customers who didn't like my price for a domain name, bought somewhere "cheap" then in the end paid more than I would have charged initially as they had to buy "upgrades" to the account to actually do anything with it. I'm a TPP Wholesale reseller and those accounts have DNS management built in. Sure, they look more expensive initially but not when you actually want to do something with the domain.
If you just want to grab the name and park it, cheap is fine.
Buyer beware. Cheap is not always best if you're not getting everything you need.
Another vote for VentraIP because they have been reliable for me and have a good domain management console. Since you need an ABN for .com.au, it will be a business expense anyway so why try to save a few bucks with a dodgy registrar?
As this is Ozbargain, I'd like to jot down that for personal use I've using a "CU.CC" domain which is FREE, for over a year. It has limited smtp, lots of space and features.
Bit irrelevant for OP but felt like mentioning it as it's been flawless for my limited use.Search engine results can be restricted with .cu.cc

Id just register it through who your going to host the website through. Most places are easily under $20 so just save yourself the hassles. Also just a side note, you need an ABN to register a .com.au domain.
