Replacing Halogen lights with LED ones in whole house

Thinking to replacing Halogen lights with LED ones in whole house.

We have about 20 Halogens in house and one of the electrician quoted us with $30 (light + any material needed) + $14 labor charge i.e $44 per light taking final cost to whopping $880. Offers 5years of warranty (including replacement of light in case any dies).

Is it normal price for such replacements? Any things I should be asking in advance to the electricians about this job? Any recommendation for electrician who can do this job in Sydney?

  • is that to replace the light bulb or the light fitting/bulb?

pity you are sydney, i just spent $2500 on an electrician in northside brissy
A very honest legit professional I would otherwise recommend.

  • Had a sparky come round the other day, replaced 72 downlights with LED versions all for the total of $50. Have 3 friends also just had their paces done for the same price. It's a government funded swap over, at least in VIC it is. Not sure about other states, will go look for the details and let you know.

    • Did you have to supply the LED bulbs?
Do they take the old bulbs?
      $50 is a bargain.

  • Why dont you just do it yourself? You literally just have to change a light bulb.

I buy them from a re sellers on Aliexpress ($4-5/bulb). I've replaced 30 so far over the past 2yrs, only had ine fail. Assuming they're in 2hrs/day they paid for themselves in ~9mths. Not only that they halogen bulds were mostly cracked from the heat, the led run much cooler, so I'd say leas of a fire hazzard.
