      I believe that this device is meant to be used while outside of Australia.

      When traveling, you could use it to connect your device (with its AU plug/cord) to the wall socket in your hotel/accommodation. Most Phone/Tablet/Notebook chargers are multi voltage (100v-240v) input now.

      The same device is a little cheaper (delivered) via eBay.

      I have a couple. Very useful to plugin to the 'normal' wall sockets in hotel rooms in Hong Kong (desk lamp, etc.) - as the universal/USA bathroom one is restricted in its output.

      Thank you very much OP, Chickenleg & A3Australia. Just bought one. Although I already have several international adaptors, it is always useful to have another spare because I have left behind a couple on previous o/s holidays. Special thanks to Chickenleg & A3Australia for the links to the eBay seller who has it at a slightly better price. Although the price differential is minor, the big advantage is that the eBay seller lists it in Oz$ which means that I know exactly what I am paying whereas when it is in US$, one can only estimate the final price after bank forex conversion.

        No probs, I was actually about to buy one for my upcoming trip to Japan but thought $6 was a bit steep RRP for something so generic. In the process of looking at these I also realised that Japanese plugs are the same as US which I already have one for. Winning all round! (Except for OP..)
