D-Link DIR-865L Tomato Firmware Printer Support

Reaching out to all the OzBargainers out there who purchased this D-Link DIR-865L router and installed the Tomato custom firmware!

Been using this router for a while and it's great thus far, but the D-Link software to share the printer is annoying. On DD-WRT, sharing a printer doesn't require any software, it's a matter of directing to the routers IP, to its printer port.

Does Tomato firmware on this router also work like that? I'm having trouble finding any information online..

USB printer? Perhaps check out http://tomatousb.org ; afaik the regular tomato firmware doesn't include the special sauce (heh) needed to support usb. Gargoyle is another alternate firmware (that I use personally) that is based on OpenWRT underneath, so has better support built in for extra stuff like that as long as you don't mind a bit of SSH.

  • normally i'd be all for it but the basic dlink firmware is pretty good for what it is

granted i dont use the usb

  • Resurrecting this dead thread to let you know that there is a Tomato build.

With all the security bugs that are being announced for DLink's and other brands, it's time to take the plunge and upgrade to a more secure firmware with more hope of future patches/updates.

  • I bought a NOS unit to match my current 865 which is my main router.

I could not get tomato to update. It says invalid imagine. I think the OEM image is 10Mb but the updated Tomato is 12Mb.

Not to worry, a new firmware out: ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DIR-865L/REVA/DIR-865L_REVA_FI…

I use my 2nd 865 as a bridge but its slightly odd in how it works but it does work.

I have an 865 as a 5ghz bridge connected to my main 865.

I'm still unimpressed with 2.4ghz performance but I didnt buy it for that anyway.
