Turnigy 2400mAh Rechargeable AA NiMH Cells $1.12 Each Plus Shipping from HobbyKing

250

Just noticed that HobbyKing has reduced the price of the Turnigy 2400 mAh AA rechargeable NiMH cells to AU$1.12 each plus shipping.

Shipping isn't particularly cheap, but as long as you stock up on a reasonable quantity, it should come down to AU$2 or less per cell which is still pretty good. Shipping cost jumps as you pass certain weight limits - if you order 28 of them, you come in at just under 1Kg and it works out to about $50 or $1.79 per cell.

The same cells are also available from their Australian warehouse with cheaper shipping, but they're $1.95 each!

I'm assuming that these are being sold off cheap to clear out old stock now that they've got higher capacity 2550 mAh Turnigy cells:

I've run some cycle life testing to compare these to Eneloop XX cells and found them to be quite good:

Although their capacity is a little lower than the Eneloop XX cells, they actually lasted for more cycles in my tests!

  • can i charge these on my eneloop charger?

    • Yep - you can charge them in any good NiMH charger, including those branded for Eneloops.

I have used these batteries, and I have had more consistent results with these than with Eneloops. I have experienced significant capacity drops when using Eneloops for TV remote controls, e.g. ~750mAh for first charge, ~600mAh at second charge a year later. Refreshing the batteries on my MH-C9000 brought back some of the capacity, but only after five discharge/charge cycles.

I used Turnigy batteries in some other remote controls, the drop in capacity was MUCH less, about 50mAh. No need to "refresh" the batteries either.

Last time there was a deal on these, the poster gave a nice table comparing the pricing between the international warehouse and the australian wasrehouse, with shipping fees included:

    • yep same with me and turnigys vs eneloops. i prefer the tunigys for sure. i also have an mhc9000, also very happy with that. also all my turnigys test at well above advertised mah (2400's consistently test at 2450+)

fwiw these have dropped in price because they are coming out with even higher mah rated cells (2550 v 2400) http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__55554__Turnigy_AA_LSD_2550mAh_Low_Self_Discharge_ready_to_use_4pc_pack_.html

edit: i should really learn to read the whole description before commenting….

  • I bought some of these in March and they're pretty good so far. My La Crosse BC-700 charger reports the measured capacity of all of my 2400 mAh AA cells as 2500+ mAh.

  • I have really no idea about batteries. Can someone advise me. Should i get a bunch of these or some eneloops ( i think they are on sale today at cotd) They will be going in the controller of an rc plane

    • Hey, I use these in my controllers that take AA. Have had no problems with them at all and have around 60. Don't fast charge them in the 1 or 2 hour chargers unless you really need to as it kills the capacity and the number of cycles you can charge and get good capacity. I have some eneloops as well, but for value these are awesome.

      • Thanks to both of you, thats what i wanted to hear !

        • check the previous deal postings for them, they always get good reviews (from myself included)

in my testing they are better than eneloops in every way including price….. that is not to say that eneloops are bad, they are great batteries, its just that turnigys are better :)

lies, i always fast charge mine and mine are still the same capacity they have been since i first bought them 3 or 4 years ago (back when they were only like 2200mah). its not fast or slow charging that makes the difference its the quality of the charger. cheap/poor quality chargers overcharge them causing cell damage. get yourself either the mhc9000 or the slightly cheaper bc700 charger and you should see many years use out of your batteries

  • @O.P. There are Turnigy 2550mAh cells as well, would be interesting to see them up against Eneloop XXs, same capacity to make it fair!

Yes, I mentioned the 2550 mAh cells in the description.

I've ordered a few of them - I'm planning to run a similar test on them as well. Keep in mind that these tests take months to run, so it'll be a while before I can report back on them…

      • Yep, I wish there was a postage table on these :(
Found out from chat that the expiry date for the sale is 30th November!
