Good Quality Mens Business Shoes

Looking for some advice on a good brand of men's business shoes that wont break the bank and lasts longer than a few months. The latest pair I bought from Tarocash (for $75) lasted about 3 months before I went through both heels .. past the point of repair. This is the usual story for me, ..wear out the heels and the rest of the show is OK. Heel replacements are $80-100 I figure so what is the point…more than the shoes themselves.

Am I looking at $200-300 for a decent pair of shoes that will last the distance? … and those that are thinking no I don't drag my feet. (not that I know of anyway).

Cheers

You want an upper made from full-grain leather (not corrected leather or fake leather), and a goodyear welted sole. Prince Charles had a pair that's over 40 years old. I'm not going to go into the intricacies of what these things mean, but rest assured as long as your shoe fits these two criteria, it will last for years with proper care.

Sites to purchase from include pediwear, Robinsons, and herring shoes, all based in the UK. Brands to look for are Loake, Herring, and other entry level english shoes. Theres often discount coupons floating around online as well. Make sure you size your shoes correctly, as if you have the best quality shoes that dont fit, you may as well be wearing shoes from kmart.

    • Second this. Nothing compares to goodyear welted soles.

You can find cheaper ones on Amazon, but those shoes must be fitted properly. Usually it's about half a size down from your regular size, since the arch on those shoes are more profound than what you're used to.

I personally own a pair of Loake Sharp shoes.

    • I second Loake. I've got a couple of pairs that have seen me through the last 5 years at least.

      Well worth the money.

  • I quite like my Eccos.

  • Try Allen Edmonds or Alden. Their stuff is the proper stuff.

I got my RM Williams boots from their factory outlet store at Harbour Town on the Gold Coast (around $250). Latest pair are 7 years old and still going strong. Wear them 5 days a week in the office environment and occasionally going out. Factor in walking to / from transport, lunch etc, I get awesome bang for buck.

I second the RM Williams. I've had my pair for 8 months now and i hardly wear anything else. They double as work, formal, and casual shoes.
Plus all the pollies wear them so that's gotta mean something, right?

  • Rockports - best shoes I've ever bought. Comfortable, and after four years, hardly any sign of wear.

  • Good advice, thanks to all. Plenty of options here to investigate and now I can honestly say I know what a goodyear welted sole is.

Brando and Messini are both very good for quality business shoes and last many years of daily use. You can buy good brands of full leather shoes when they are on sale for the $200-$300 price range.

I also had the same issue you mentioned with the shoes only lasting 6 months. A quality Italian shoe certainly saves money over the long term.

A good shoe repair also works a good combination. In Sydney, Rogers shoe repair in Redfern is best for price and service.

There are probably a number of good quality shoes manufacturers on the market that last for years. It's when you buy from a shoe shop boutique that has the full leather shoes over Kmart, target, tarocash China made low quality.

  • Florsheim Shoes specially if you like the made in India designs
