you need to add the postage cost to the listing or bump up the price of the item and put free shipping

      • Postage isn't free, you either include it in the price of the item and choose 'free shipping' or you add it on as postage.

you need to factor postage price into your listings and still make a good profit you need to be buying your stock well below retail and still be able to sell it cheaper than retail i usually try make 300% on most of my items unless i am clearing them out but i never run at a loss on anything including postage price added in

i've never seen someone stutter when they write…

      • thanks bud for ur time

      • That's the joke. Sometimes people can be so stupefying, that they turn you stupid temporarily.

  • I think the short answer is simply DON'T.

Whilst I don't run any sort of business, just trying to get rid of some surplus stuff around the house and make a few dollars is now almost impossible.

My personal view now is that you just cannot charge enough to cover the ebay fees, paypal fees and exorbitant postage costs and make any reasonable profit. You have to pay for extra postage services like tracking etc, just to ensure the item gets to the person, and you have proof they got it, in case they want to stiff you.

I think the glory days of ebay are long gone, the horror stories are all too frequent now, and ebay are only interested in finding new ways to increase fees and rake in billions at the expense of the customers.

Sadly no-one seems able to come up with a reasonably priced alternative. But I do understand that it would cost a lot of money just to set up some basic infrastructure to handle an online auction system. So it is wishful thinking on my part, though I do sometimes wonder if all the collective knowledge and wisdom that resides here on OzB, could not be used to come up with something.

If i could tell you just one thing….STAY AWAY,STAY FAR,FAR AWAY.Ebay is not a place to sell, unless you want anything you earn eaten up by Ebay fees, paypal fees, postage fees and don't even get me started on the new paypal loopholes that mean if someone gets sick of whatever you have sold them, they can come up with some BS excuse to paypal and start a dispute…which means you have an unsellable item (if it has been used, which is highly likely)or it is not worth the small amount you would get at auction for something 2nd hand and you have to repay (you don't have a choice, paypal freezes the amount from your account)the entire amount paid by buyer (did i mention that this can happen anytime within 3-4 MONTHS.Leaving you stressed for that whole time). As johninmelb said,if some tech nerd could come up with an alternative (and they are out there)so many would be all over it that Ebay would have to rethink the whole system, but ATM we don't.Maybe look into going to your local markets and set up a stall there…you may have to pay a stall fee of a few $,but anything you earn after that is ALL YOURS,and no one can come back months later to get their money back. Also,if you have older children, friends children or a relly who wants to earn a few $ pocket money, you don't even have to be there…pay them a % of what is sold and enjoy the day elsewhere.
