[Vic Only?] 1/2 Priced Aircon Install This Weekend at Harvey Norman from $299

20

Howdy, after the spell of hot days this week I found myself in want of installing a few air conditioners around the home.
I went past HN last night and noticed a large board outside advertising half priced installs for air conditioners which peaked my interest.

I went inside to talk to the sales person, they explained that the deal was for a basic back to back install and the price varied on the size of the system, also the deal was only valid for Fujitsu, Mitsubishi & Samsung air conditioners. I was quoted $299 for a 2.5kw unit and $399 for a 5kw unit.

For reference I was looking at a 2.5kw fujitsu (had a $999 price instore though) & 5kw fujitsu

For comparison I went over to good guys and they quoted me $700 & $800 to install the above units respectively, their pricing on the air cons were marginally lower however.

For those on a look out for an air con this weekend, this could be a good deal for you.

Happy ozbargaining :)

Edit: perhaps Viv only? Confirmed for the sunshine & maribyrnong stores in Melbourne

ps. any other recommendations for air cons in those size range?

  • Which Harvey Norman was this? I called me local one at Browns plains Qld and they have no such deal and said it would be $599 to install a 2.5-3.5kw system.

  • This was at Harvey Norman in maribrynong in Melbourne, but originally saw the banner at the Sunshine store so I assumed it was at all Harvey Normans, could be a Victorian thing but 2 out of 2 of my local stores have the deal

    • +1

When I said to the HN rep it might be site specific he said they used the same company nation wide and the prices are set nation wide.
Oh well would have been a good deal.

Edit: Rang half a dozen QLD stores. Definitely not happening here and none of the stores are aware of where the promo is happening (same thing with online chat consultant). I would update the title to say possibly only VIC.

  • Why does the install price vary with the size (kw) of the system? a back to back install would be the same regardless of whether you got a 2.5kw system or a 8kw system…?

    • Higher costs for larger systems is generally down to the electrical side of the install, together with more expensive gas piping the larger you go.

      • What rubbish! A few extra dollars for slightly larger electrical cable and AC piping does not even come close to the extra $100 fee.

        • That's a big statement, especially when the regulations state larger systems have to have their own circuit (long wire to switchboard plus circuit breaker), compared to just tapping into an existing circuit. We just had a house rewired & a 5kw air con installed.

  • This a Victoria Wide deal only - finishing Monday. $299 install for <2.7kW. $399 install for all other sizes (Back to Back only)

  • +2

The installer I knew charged the same price no matter what the system….

    • Maybe profit margin fat enough not to worry him about slight extra cost of larger unit pipes?

Anyway, good to see HN puting pressure on installation costs.
