REP. I use these. So from what this is telling me. Once these are sold out the classic filter will no longer be available. Meaning we'll have to throw out our classic jug and upgrade to the newer model.

  • Tap water here is safe to consume anyway.

Why do we need a filter? Isn't the money better off spending getting more vitamins for your health?

You can get vitamins from a healthy diet anyway, why get vitamins? Isn't the money better off spending getting more healthy food for your health?

On a more serious note, tap water is not the same everywhere hence necessitates the need for water to be filtered for consumption.

Agree, but taste of water varies.

    • I reckon it tastes better.

The water source is the same but the piping is all quite different especially if you live in a really old place with metal piping. My wife used to live in an apartment that was built in the 30s and the water that came out constantly had a metallic taste to it so having one of these things was essential.

    • Some town water supplies are far from great taste wise, even if safe to drink. These filters do help improve that.

Appreciate the heads up rep, but these are cheaper on ebay.

    • Agree the original classic filters shipped from UK on ebay are cheaper. A seller has them for as low as $5.75 each shipped. When buying a bulk pack. Although this deal is the cheapest locally you can get these for.

  • Note AU filters are 8 week filters and UK filters are 4 week filters

    • Didn't know that. Even though the cartridges look the same not sure if there is actually any differences in the way the cartridges are manufactured for different regions. Since this information is only mentioned in the FAQ on the Brita web site. Not on the product information pages.

      Brita AU FAQ
The cartridge should be replaced after eight weeks at the latest, as the requirement for careful hygiene to ensure that you are experiencing optimum performance from your BRITA cartridge.

      Brita UK FAQ
The cartridge should be replaced after four weeks at the latest, as the requirement for careful hygiene to ensure that you are experiencing optimum performance from your BRITA cartridge.

      • This could just mean UK water has more contaminants than Australia?

The ingredients should be similar or pretty much the same!

        • Thats what I was thinking. The last Classic AU cartridge I purchase from Big W was made in the UK. Says on the package Filers up to 150 Liters and is Recommended to be changed every 4-8 weeks.

  • UK water is hard vs AU water which is generally soft…UK formula is suited to their conditions and will be exhausted after about a month or 150lites….their formula is not that suitable for AU/NZ water and will not last 8 weeks/150litres here before you start to taste chlorine ( AU /NZ's main issue)
