Network Media Player

I am looking for a decent network based media player.

I currently have all my media hosted on a NAS and stream it to a jailbroken Apple TV 2 which I want to sell.

I would prefer something that can access the shares over SMB as I find DLNA can take some time to index new files.
I would also prefer not to have an android based player as I have had issues with them in the past.

I am however open to any and all suggestions.

    Roku 3 off Amazon or WD TV Live Player?

      I looked at the Roku 3 but it looks like it only supports DLNA?

        Yea, it doesn't support SMB.

    The Nexus player looks good ,just there is only WIFI connection,looks it ll be hard to stream HD.

      If you got a Ethernet port near your tele put a WD750/WD900 router it is dam cheap from msy. It serves four purposes 1. Giving a decent WiFi connection to devices in a 5 meter range 2. You can connect your smartphone to this control nexus player thorough remote app. 3. Connect an external hdd to router and use it is as DLNA/FTP/Itunes Server.4. Gigabit 4 port connection to rest of your devices.

    I know you said no android based player but I love my raspberry pi XBMC kit. You should check it out.

    All setup to my network shares on my HP Microserver, works great!

      Thanks. I have a raspberry pi and it's great but it's just too slow at buffering HD content.

    Thanks for all the replies guys. I found this in my cupboard that I completely forgot I had. I shelved it a few years ago as it didn't suit my setup at the time but it works like a charm and does everything I need.
