Frozen Japanese Gyoza 700g - 28 Pieces $6.50 - SAVE $7.80 (Was $14.30) @ Coles

190

Everyone likes Gyoza, especially when the price is right!

As the title suggests, Gyoza are on special at coles and cheaper than the Japanese importer I frequent.
They are not made in Japan, so there may well be cheaper products at some importers/Asian groceries, but not bad if you want to include them with your regular grocery shopping.

-The offer appears to be nationwide in the URL
-Unsure of finish date as this may be clearance or weekly special
-May contain Crustacea

    Frozen Japanese Gyoza

Are they really Japanese? I thought that Pacific West made them in Australia ???

Maybe they're made from Frozen Japanese!

      Mmm, soylent dumplings…

        Mmm, soylent dumplings…

        Are they green?

        • +2

          That's the wasabi, bro! ;)

        • @StewBalls: I think that was an obvious reference of soylent green. I guess wasabi can be made out of human flesh which I didn't know until today. You learn something new everyday.

They are made in China. It is certainly deceiving calling them 'Japanese'.
I cooked them up the other night and they were decent. It's hard to go wrong with dumplings though…

      • +1

        They are made in China.

So all they do is package them here?

I'll never buy Pacific West again. Their website says their 'production' facility is here in Australia, but if all it does is 'package' that is really misleading…

        • +1

It would seem so, yes. That is pretty common with importers though as they import in bulk and then package them into smaller sizes for a tidy profit.

      • +2

I suppose that particular wording is referring to what the Japanese calls them
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiaozi#Japanese_version

But is originally a Chinese food like what most Chinese people already know (餃子).

  • Best scrabble word ever.

There were pretty decent. Worth the money in my opinion

  • Where are they made? My experience has been usually Thailand or China.

  • Bought a box previously half price, not a huge fan of the filling. Not sure if there's a better brands available or not but these are budget items.

Our Freezer is half full of these. Really are a very good product and also suitable for vegetarians as no meat.We used to hand make ours but don't bother anymore. They are on at this price about once every 2 months so we stock up at that time. Highly recommended

      Hang on…no meat, no deal.

You don't win friends with salad!

        Fish sauce or similar.
        Not suitable for vegetarians.

  • Would these be nice for a non sushi eating person? Can you deep fry these?

    • +10

      Can you deep fry these?

      No, you will get arrested.

      • +1

What if I promise not to chew?

    • +4

you don't deep fry them, but you can pan-fry gyoza. The best way to do this is use a fry-pan, but add water (until it comes half-way up the gyoza), and then cook uncovered.

      • When I'm lazy, I just quickly microwave them covered from frozen after adding water. Not quite as tasty, but still enjoyable with some suitable dipping sauce. I have not tried these cheapies.

    No meat.

    No!

LUCKY, No Meat, otherwise I will NOT buy dumpling from China. Dumpling from China is made of Human Meat…….

Any one know where to get some good frozen pork gyozas?

  • +1

In Japan in just over 2 weeks, so I'll wait for real gyozas :-)

    • Beware most of the gyoza served in japan isn't made in japan.
Go online and find the franchises for: 餃子の王将 (Gyoza no Ohsho).

They are the best gyoza and they are still made in Japan.

      • Bookmarked it, but I rarely eat in chain outlets.

        • +1

Trust me, you will want to eat at this chain outlet.
I've been to Japan more than 5 times, and every time I have to go back to it atleast once.

Only try their Gyoza, all their other food sucks. lol. Have it for a snack or something in the afternoon.

They have won various awards for their gyoza.

      • Haha my wife loves Onigiri. She always buys a few and puts them in the fridge and has them for breakfast.

  • just got 2 packs, also found Korea style Gyoza with the same discount.
