Fitbit have amazing products and support, they are like the apple of fitness trackers imo. I have the fitbit one for 1.5 years now and can't leave without it, lost it once and they sent me a replacement free of charge even though it was my fault.

Currently the flex is their best seller, but if you are willing to wait about 4-6 weeks they are releasing three new trackers and possibly dropping price/discontinuing (unlikely) the flex.

The new trackers are the Charge (similar to the discontinued Force), Charge HR (Pulse continuous heart rate) and Surge (with GPS as well).

My advice is to wait for a bit for the announcement/new prices and decide then :)

I agree about perhaps waiting. Find out what you want from the unit.
The Fitbit Surge above looks a cracker, apart from the current/proposed price tag.
The article below really helped me.

Do you want it to be waterproof/resistant?
Good sleep helps better weight loss, so do you want to measure sleep? or sleep quality…etc

I think I am most attracted to this one. It does a lot including tracking sleep automatically.

I will not buy a tracker trapped in the closed apple ecosystem. I am invested in android/PC. (But that is my choice.)

    new device soon to market:

Might be worth looking at a pebble…… similar price/features to many of the trackers.
Think it's just ios at the moment

Waiting for the US$199 Basis. Best one ever. Does heart rate without a strap and the best sleep tracker IMHO. Oh and sweat and temp which is a nice bonus. I think they might even do smartphone txt and call notifications but can't recall exactly.

    But yeah get a Basis.

Only annoying thing about Basis is the lack of export/api options, we have been waiting for years on an update from the developers regarding that issue.

      • Cool, didn't know that. Thanks. Fingers crossed they release one, or a fan figures a workaround. But open-data is a must. It's a no brainer, can't believe Basis have been so stupid to sit on it for over 2 years.

That's a bit of a downer. Now gotta wait for them to do API before I get one.

Prefer a Jawbone 24 design without a screen as I like wearing my own watch. But the Jawbone is lacking lots of features compared to the Basis.
