JB Hi-Fi - Increasing Prices during Recent 15% off Digital Camera Sale

Hi. Long time member, first time forum submitter.

Hoping someone can help. I have been over the last few months looking at purchasing an Olympus SP-100EE digital camera after having used one recently. As I normally do I check the prices of various retailers to get the best deal. I came across the JB Hifi website (www.jbhifi.com.au) and noticed the price of "TICKET $399" (which was the best price I had seen at the time). Due to other commitments not allowing me to purchase at the time I had waited, when I found out that they were having a sale during the recent JB Hifi 15% digital camera (if I recall over the October long weekend). Low and behold on their website the EXACT same camera now had "TICKET $449 - $381.65 - $67.35 OFF". The $449 had a red strike line through it and the $381.65 was in red font. It didn't look right so I took a screen shot of this on my phone and I thought i'll wait till a week or so after the sale ends and see what it then reads. I returned today (Monday 20/10/2014) and the price now reads "TICKET $399 - $369 - $30 OFF". Again the $399 red line through it and the $369 in red font (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/cameras/compact-cameras/olympus/ol…)

I don't know the laws pertaining to price changes during sales but this doesn't sound right. Is anyway one of the OzB community able to enlighten me?

Thanking in advance.

Mark

if you query them they will prob say off 15% off RRP

  • As jb sells below rrp when they go on sale they reflect the discount to rrp.
As op you have already researched, they are cheaper than competition because they are already selling below rrp to begin with.

Simply buy from the cheapest place, don't worry about the perceived discount u see ffrom any advertised discount.

From my (short) experience working for JB, we usually get weekly ticket price changes from management that aligns with print and online catalogues. Sometimes the price changes are determined by the supplier themselves as part of promo or it's an internal decision to clear leftover stock etc. There's always irrational changes like your Olympus camera there - to me it seems like it might be a quit stock they're eager to get rid of. My best advice is for you is to not worry about these anomalies, ha, and go ahead in store, as ticket prices basically mean jack shit at JB (we can always discount, 99% of the time). Check the stock level before you go in and haggle with one of the salespeople. Your chance of getting a better bargain will increase if you also have more than one item in the same transaction. Good luck mate.
