Disputed parking fine for 10m intersection parking

Last month I received a $150 parking fine for parking too close to a residential intersection on side street which is popular for parking because of a closeby train station. I was parked at the end of the street and got confused as there are no parking signs at the end of the street, but there is signage ("No Standing") at the start of each street.

I admit, I was in the wrong, I was parking about 5 meters away from the intersection (Not a major intersection, just a T intersection, no lights)

I wrote a plea to get it waved as I haven't had a parking fine in over 3 years and was apologetic. I admitted that I was in the wrong.

The reply from the council was along the lines of "You were parked 5 meters from the intersection, which can cause a dangerous situation"

I'm trying to think…What dangerous situation would parking 5 meters away actually cause? I can understand when you park too close to the beginning of the intersection - but at the end? I was in no way blocking the intersection.

Do you think it's worth contesting the fine in court?
Have you had any experience contesting parking fines in Court?

It blocks the view up the street to see if a car is coming and safe to turn. Pay it, it isn't a council law, it is basic road rules.

You wouldnt be challenging the judgement of the person that gave it to you, you would need to be challenging the law itself. The Law doesnt lose….. pretty sure thats where lawl comes from, true story….

  • cheers.
