Nexus 6 vs Galaxy Note 4 which will you choose & why?

I have a Galaxy note2 that fitted in my pocket and was a go anywhere size, I now have a Sony Ultra 6.4inch great phone but just a tad large and will keep it because I love the screen. I now am looking at getting one of the new kids on the block Nexus6 or note4 love the 5.96 size screen on the nexus 6 and never used the stylus on my note2. I think the price of the two units is now similar.

Does the stylus on the note become more critical in multi-tasking and will it out way the bigger screen on the nexus6?

Edit: thanks all for your input… I am still undecided veering towards the nexus6. The note3 vs note4 minor improvement comment is valid, thanks again for your helpful comments.

Wait for a review of the Nexus 6 first.

The Note 4 so far has been mediocre in benefits compared to the Note 3.

I am thinking the same, Nexus 6 or Galaxy Note 4, but at the same time my Xperia Z Ultra is working ok beside the over sensitive screen :-S I wish Nexus 6 is priced less, it will be easier to make the decision to or not to fork out more money for additional features on Galaxy Note 4. I was quite hyped about Gear VR, but it seems it's going to be a closed ecology. Beside the 13MP vs 16MP on Note 4, I'm more leaning toward Nexus 6. Not to mention Google will upgrade most if not all their phones to latest version of Android, from what I heard now, Samsung will update S5 only to Android 5.0. Just my 2 cents.

Lollipop looks like a great improvement, you make a good point, definitely something to consider, will samsung update quick enough?

Note 4 has microsd slot, s pen, removable battery.

Nexus 6 has dual speakers, latest android version and first to get updates, and around $250 cheaper on release.

Note 4 probably has a better camera.

  • Note 4, easily.

What 'use' is a big screen, with no multi tasking capabilities? The Note 4 can with Samsung's Multi-Window; the Nexus doesn't (unfortunately).

You've also got the S Pen with the Note 4, to jot down notes on the big screen.

I am going to bet that the Nexus' camera will be mediocre, based on all the Nexus series, as well as Motorola's cameras. The Note 4 on the other hand, has produced the best photos in a blind test, beating everything in the test including the new iPHones: ( http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-4-wins-ou… )

Bottom line: THe Note 4 is simply a more productive tool; the Nexus 6 is probably geared more for multi media with its front facing dual stereo speakers.

    • I can see there are improvements to multitasking in Galaxy Note 4, but does it still have limited app support issue? I own a Galaxy Note 8, the multitasking feature only works for limited apps, I hope Note 4 fixed this issue.

I own a Galaxy Note (N7000) as well, used S Pen for a while, but stopped using it due to limited app support for stylus and no synchronise support on Samsung Stylus Apps. But OneNote is working with S Pen now, I will rethink about it.

Yes, Galaxy Note 4 camera is highly likely to be better than Nexus 6, I can't see anyway Google or OEM can beat it at the moment. Hopefully there are reviews for camera comparison coming out soon.

For me, it's down to the price now, if Nexus 6 is priced too high, I will go for Note 4 for sure. I hope Note 4 price in Australia comes down when Nexus 6 release. My wishful thinking :-)

      • Oh ok… yeah, pricing :S

I have no problems with what Multi-Window supports currently: all the apps I need it to support, which is mainly YouTube, Chrome and S Note. Maps is also supported, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I don't need. I don't need to play Angry Birds while I watch YouTube, and some people want that I guess (not saying that's you!).

Pricing… Mmm :S I know what you mean. Nexus was a name that you could count on to be low priced… but not this time :(

I've a Nexus 4, and it's got no problems (besides the camera, it sucks), and I think if I were to change, I would get the Note 3 (not 4, because that will be a bomb to my savings) :)

        • Angry Birds and YouTube at the same time, that's an amazing idea :) Double the fun :D

That's an interesting idea, Note3 over Note4, I wonder the quality difference between the cameras. Note4 should be better but by how much? Can't seem to find any Note3 vs Note4 cameras comparison review at the moment. But with saving of 300~400 from getting a Note3, perhaps I can get a proper camera :D

Even I'm going to get Note4, I guess I will want until earlier next year when the price settled after 3 months. Hopefully there will be deals on Ozb around Christmas :S

  • Having owned phones with and without styluses, in windows, android and iOS, I can't help but feel that a stylus on a phone is a flawed concept. Essentially a phone is something you want to use with you hand, the stylus will end up lost. From experience, styluses are only really useful on full notebook class tablets, for drawing and annotation, even ipad/nexus sized tablets don't need styluses. They are better for not having them.

    • the stylus will end up lost.

Well that would entirely be the user's fault.

They are better for not having them

You don't have to use, but if you want to, you can.

When I saw you commented on this thread, I was expecting a "Buy iphone 6 Plus" or "Android Sucks." I am surprised lol.

      • I have had all three. I use a Nexus tablet rather than an iPad because I need USB OTG to connect to a radio modem. I don't think its better than an iPad in anyway, but it suits my purpose more. I think iPhones are vastly superior phones to android and windows phones however, just for their functionality and ease of use. But people want what people want, so Im not going to recommend a iPhone if the user wants an android.

        • suits my purpose more

I think this is the key phase here, iphone is superior for you because customization, battery life and replace-ability, expandable storage and s-pen (annotations and drawing) is not important to you. Not saying that's a bad thing, just pointing out that no top seller flagship is better than another. They all just serve a different purpose and market to certain demographics.

Probably like yourself I am a tech geek and some days I use my phone outdoor with heavy screen on and GPS intensive apps with youtube inbetween, so replaceable battery is important to me. Same with S-pen, useful for studies (highlight annotation and diagrams, yup possible and useful on a ~5.7inch screen along with awesome portability). So note 4 for me :D

I was contemplating the same. However, I think Note 3 is going to be fair comprimise. The grey important are already $450. So, looking for pick it up for around $400 mark in within next month hopefully.

  • Would it also be worth considering the LG G3?

nope. i would consider the z3 personally. great phone, even the z2 beats the g3
