    • That price is for GG Campbelltown only - it isn't being matched at GG Rockdale for example. Other GG stores may match it… or they may not.

Not saying this is a great price, but it is decent and considering you can order online and pick up at any of their stores (as far as I can tell), it's a decent deal.

I personally think if you're not going to get into blu-ray anytime soon, non-full HD is fine - it'll be a long time before TV broadcasts, for example, are broadcast in full HD, and non-full HD panels (esp Panasonic) are still great quality (exactly how great depends on how far you are sitting from the TV). Also, a 50" full HD panel will set you back at least $2000ish - that's a decent difference in money.

      • I believe One HD, Seven HD, WIN/NBN HD and Nine HD are currently broadcast in 1080i, which once deinterlaced, is 1920x1080, i.e. Full HD.

I suspect a similarly priced 42" full HD panel would be better for most viewing - but you can always check out various panels at your nearest LCD selling sort of store and make up your own mind - obtain a bit of BBC's Planet Earth series in 1080p… you won't be buying a half-HD panel after that :)

  • I wouldnt buy anything but a full HD screen. Especially at this size. The semi HD panels are being phased out.

  • For this screen size, a stanadard HD is useless! Really should be much cheaper.

Size | Resolution | Low Price

    Pick any two.

1366 x 768 is fine for most people. I have a 50" samsung which I use mainly for xbox360/PS3 and you can barely tell the difference between it, and the 50" 1080p panasonic we have unless you get up close.

Just avoid the 42" plasmas with the funny 1024x768 resolution panels. (720p is 1280x720 and 1024 < 1280)

    • I agree with the 1024x768 resolution, the pixels end up rectangular and you can get some really nasty horizontal pixelation.

I semi agree with what you say about the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 50" screen. Although I find you do get a noticeable nicer picture with the 1080p displays, even when displaying 720p content. You do have to be closer (or have good eyesight), but I also think the 1080p panels are typically newer generation so better quality.

      • Yeah if you want to watch bluray movies and stuff, go for 1080p. If you are getting it as a secondary TV or something, Saving ~$500 or so and getting a 720p panel isn't that bad an idea. Most of my movie collection is in 720p format, and most xbox360/ps3 games only render in 720p anyway (with upscaling to 1080p if you have that set as the res).

BTW, i got my Samsung for $1499 at JB Hifi about 6months ago so that's the price i'd be haggling for :)
