Edit2: as at 8:00am First Choice Liquor is also $644/bottle

4% off is hardly a bargain

    • +2

4% off a 1 dollar cord, nope, 4% off a 650 dollar bottle is 20 odd bucks, enough to buy dinner!

  • Does anybody want mine? it's a 1996… Will be quite a bit cheaper then $650

    • How much?

      • Make me an offer.

        It's in amazing condition.

Small print: The bottle is empty.

Let the price war begin? I'm sure $650 / $644 won't be the cheapest price today :)

Don't forget the DM 7.5% cashback, and also the amex $50 statement credit for 3 x $50 purchases. Personally, I'll be buying up on the 99 point rated Bin 389, which is a bargain at $62.95 :)

EDIT: Bin 389 now $59.80 at DM

    • Which Bin 389 received 99 points? And from who?

      Certainly not the current vintage.

      Please elaborate.

      • -1

Happy to elaborate. The current vintage (2012) received 99 pts from Andrew Caillard MW. It received 97 points from Halliday. Have a google.

        • You are still talking about Bin 389, right?

          From DM website here: https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_73309/penfolds-bin-…

          Andrew Caillard MW
          Vintage 2012
          96 points
Deep crimson. Intense inky blackcurrant, praline, mocha, aromas with espresso, herb notes. Generous dark berry, dark chocolate flavours, fine dense chalky/ aldente textures, lovely mid-palate richness and underlying roasted walnut, mocha notes. Finishes chocolatey with a long graphite tannin plume. This is a substantial wine with beautiful expressive fruit, underlying oak complexity, superb richness, density and energy. A very strong and versatile Bin 389 vintage with wonderful aging potential. 20 years plus. Drink, keep and bequeath some!

        • +2

Andrew Caillard is heavily affiliated with Penfolds. He always gives their wines a few extra pts. a 99pt AC is more like a 96…. still a good wine though.

    • Agreed! Although, in my experience, 'Cashrewards' generated through DM seem to take forever to materialize - I haven't received 'available rewards' for purchases that are 6+ weeks in the past. :-(

  • also if you have a amex, buy 3 gift cards and pay for it like that
    50 off

  • $29.90 seems like a bargain for Bin 128

Store rep posts bargain, for own store, then updates with better price from other store..

I'm pretty sure your next move is to beat that other store… :)

    • +4

Rep's that update with cheaper prices elsewhere are welcome on Ozbargain any day!! Should be more of it!

      • For sure! And it's been updated now with a price match, good enough!

Sent these very useful for removing politicians?

  • the value was really go when they had the RWT 2011 deal
    got two lots then!

    • Sure was, I picked up 5 RWT in that deal.

Bin 389 will sell quick this year I think.

  • Does anyone that can afford $650 per bottle and buys 6 really care that much about $4 extra off?

    • The RRP / start price this year seemed to hover around $750. So far, it's a $100-$106 saving per bottle…

  • I have some vintage 1961 penfold grange…..it would be great if someone could buy them off me
Only 3k per bottle if buy all its 2K per bottle

Will you give me one for free if I award you a contract to run a water monopoly?

    • How many do you have and are they checked by a Penfolds recording clinic?

      • Not sure what is the recording clinic, but it is the real thing given by some rich people which I don't really drink wine and even if I do….I will drink the $20 penfold ones….

        • Sorry. Meant to say recorking clinic where Penfolds will check the quality of the wine. If they are checked and certified then these will have value. If not then they are a huge gamble as they may not have been cellared properly. How have you cellared since receiving?

Penfolds Grange, the gift no one remembers receiving.

      Paging Barry O'Fail

  • Interesting looking at historical releases - none of them seems to sell for more than $650, save for hte really old classic releases (71, 61 etc). Don't know if getting a bottle for $550 (after Qwibble and Amex gift voucher cashback) is such a good investment.

  • The 2010 Grange has 100 points from Caillard, and 99 from Halliday, and $5 cheaper at $639.

Buying that bottle you'd at least have 4 years head start on the cellaring ;)
