  • Strange, no SDHC support?

    • YES up to 32GB SDHC

This appears to be physically identical to the recent Omni unit from Topbuy.
Badge engineered in the same factory no doubt.
I bought one of the TopBuy/Omni units BTW, and it works fine - every connection interface (bar eSATA, Firewire/IEEE1394 and P-ATA/IDE) in the one neat unit.
The plastic body is of the hard/brittle type and wouldn't take kindly to rough treatment, but if you keep it safely installed on your work/server bench there should be no problem.

    • To be clear, you're saying this thing docks PATA/IDE HDD, not just SATA?

On a tangent, with an IDE cable and power cable extender could I run my IDE DVD-ROM? (All salvaged from PC after PSU went recently)

      • This unit only supports SATA.

      • 1) NO, quite the opposite,, "every connection … bar … IDE".
        2) No. You'd need an USB to IDE (& SATA) cable/adaptor such as this. (I have one of a different brand and it's a handy thing to have in your toolkit.)

  • I'm posting from MSY in Balcatta, and it's identical to the A-Power 2.5/3.5" dock + Card Reader for $36.

    So… meh.

    • can you grab me some RAM mate?

    • +6

Wow, negative votes for posting a cheaper identical product available nationwide. People are funny.

      • +1

How much is MSY charging for shipping?

        • They don't ship.

But there are multiple stores in QLD, NSW, VIC, and SA, and one store in WA.

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: "They don’t ship" Not a fair comparison then is it?

When MSY start shipping if it's still $3 cheaper then it'll be apples vs. apples! ;)

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: 3 bucks to travel and wait isn't a bargain dumbass. For 3 bucks you can enjoy your free time instead of waiting at msy.

            • @walugi: So a bargain is $3 worth of shipping.

              You have low standards.

              • +3

@[Deactivated]: Well, given that my nearest MSY store is roughly 120+km away, so it's gonna cost me either ~$50 in fuel & parking to drive there; or ~$40 (and a 6hr round trip) in train fares only to face the VERY real possibility that despite phone & email confirmation of stock, MSY don't have one! Given this scenario mate, then HELL YEAH "$3 worth of shipping" IS A MIGHTY BARGAIN INDEED!!!

We don't have low standards tiger, you just have unreasonably high expectations! ;)

                • @StewBalls: Well played StewBalls. +1

                • @StewBalls: How about Umart, you near one of those?

How about DealExtreme - can you accept delivery from them?

Did you, in fact, even check a single price elsewhere?

                  • @[Deactivated]: Did you, in fact, come in here discussing prices from ANY OF THOSE SUPPLIERS? NO! You were talking about MSY's price being better!

Did you, in fact, check or post any of those prices BEFORE you put MSY up on a pedestal? NO! You just kept playing the MSY card in this thread!

How's about, in fact, instead of consistently whining about everyone else's bargains you start posting a few of your own if your deals are so much better? :p

                    • +1

@StewBalls: Nope, I didn't. Because, as the post clearly says, I was in an MSY at the time and saw one on the shelf.

I don't post piss-poor bargains. I actually put a little effort in to see if they're a bargain or not first. That's why I post so few. I see you have a long list of triumphs though.

                      • @[Deactivated]: Let's all relax before the weekend.

MSY is not an eligible basis for a negative vote in a deal offering national shipping. MSY has few outlets and is not present in all states and territories. A negative vote could possibly be entertained for a major nationwide chain with multiple branches in each city, which would draw it close to a shipped deal, but may still not necessarily be appropriate.

                        • @HueyData: How about the DealExtreme one I just linked?

                      • @[Deactivated]: Yes, your six posts have been stellar indeed, certainly worthy of seeing a red minus sign next to your name most of the time crapping all over someone else's bargains! ;)

                        You're an inspiration! :)

  • Almost gone thanks for everyone's support!

These aren't very appealing now that USB3.0 is so, so close.

    • +2

Exactly what is the time frame on USB3.0…oh…wait…nobody really knows and if you want an item this week then waiting until next year for something that might come out next quarter is a bit silly.

    • Don't be a fool, usb4 is worth waiting for

      • You're all living in a pipe-dream! Suck in a deep one and hold out for USB-e! ;)

  • it's back in stock but I registered, entered the promo code and checkout is $50… why?

  • About waiting at msy, just go on a weekday(probs not thursday) i went on a Monday and there was like 1 person there.

Good deal although sold out ):

    • It's not just the waiting, it's the incompetence! Thankfully, the only times I've attempted to deal with them I've been going to Sydney on business anyway, so I was only outta pocket for time and frustration! I'm a slow learner, I got nipped a coupla times, but I've now learned not to trust them, so I don't deal with MSY anymore! :p

I've placed orders, had stock availability confirmed, received emails telling me the order's ready to be picked up; then arrived to find it was nothing of the sort, half the products unavailable, and dull staff that couldn't understand why I'd be flabbergasted to have a printout of the email in my hand telling me to pay for and pick up products they don't have!!! :?

TBH, their prices aren't even outstanding anymore, all the other retailers have stepped up to the plate now, the competition's fierce! ;)
