Buy BenQ BL2710PT Now or Wait for Xmas Sales?

Hi All

I am looking at slowly but surely upgrading my home setup to 3 x 1440p monitors running off 2 graphics cards in SLi (thinking of 2 x gtx 970 so far) … this will be about a 2k investment if I were to purchase today ($399 for each BenQ and $419 for each 970 is best I could find)

Should I go for it, or should I hold out till christmas? currently running 3 monitors alrready just in 1080…

Other thing I am thinking of is maybe I should just buy 1 x benq, check it out enjoy 1440p and keep eyes peeled for any upcoming bargains for the other 2 and GPU's?

Any feedback from experience would be much appreciated. Also if you think any other gear other than these monitors or GPU would be better or cheaper way to go triple 1440p would love your advice !!

Kind Regards,

Slippy

  • For the GPUs wait for Christmas! The prices are still high as supply is low and demand is high (I would recommend the ASUS Strix GTX970 as the fans do not make any noise when under a small load, and runs very quiet when under heavy load). Maybe try ordering from America during their sales, Australian prices are still a bit more expensive, but then again you get local warranty, its up to you on what you want.

Heres a review from Linustechtips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqz4tDM6Wl8

EDIT: Again much cheaper to order from america compared to purchasing locally e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/165205
Just a note if you do decide to purchase from overseas, make sure the manufacture has global warranty for RMAs

Edit: Gigabyte has a better IO with 3 display ports, 1 HDMI and 2 DVI ports. Also better for OCing as it can draw more power
If you're a silence optimised freak like me I'd go with the asus.

  • ok awesome man cheers,

I might pickup the monitor tomorrow then, and keep an eye out for the card.

I wont maybe the 3 IO would suit me better when going for triple monitor, the more options at the back the better I guess

I had to put up with a radeon 5750 making aeroplane noisses for 6 months until I got my 750 Ti so abit of noise wont hurt haha

  • I don't honestly see the point of multi monitor setups with thick black lines dividing the displays. And that resolution would stretch any setup, even SLI, beyond the limit.

Why don't you go for the 34" LG: http://www.mwave.com.au/product/lg-34um95-ips-34-3440-x-1440…

A more reasonable resolution and far more immersive. There's an overpriced curved version, and a similar slightly less overpriced Dell curved version coming out soon.

Multi monitor is nice for design work etc, I don't think that's what you're after.

  • Out of interest, what's your intended use with that setup?

    • 99% of it is for Assetto Corsa in 7680 x 1440p with my g27 racing wheel and cockpit :) rest is for feeling like a baws and showing off to my friends what having an addiction to ozbargain can get you with the $$ saved over 2 years :)
