Woolworths - 1/2 Price Mortein Surface Spray Professional DIY Kit 2L $14.99 Starts Wed 15

700

Been waiting for this to be half price since the start of spring. Time to nuke the pests.

When we got a pest inspector out a couple of months ago for a regular termite inspection, they said they pretty much use the same stuff anyway if we pay them to spray the house.

Edit: Seen in NSW catalogue page 33.

If ordering online, check out the $5 off $30 offer from JSQUARED.

Maybe add to online order with $5 off Orders over $30 at Woolworths Online

    • I was just adding that! Thanks.

      • Also added it to that Woolies deal. I was wondering how to build order up to $30/35.
        Thanks moocher :-)

        • Thx!

Pity you missed out on this deal moocher http://www.mydeal.com.au/mortein-surface-spray-professional-…

Could always pricematch at masters and get a further 10% off https://www.masters.com.au/product/900001748/mortein-outdoor… and then apply your 10% voucher for a further 10% off

    • Pity you missed out on this deal

Isn't it more expensive than this deal? (Looking at fine print, not the -$1 price :) )

Get 1 bottle for $22 or 2 bottles for only $35

      That's $17.50 per bottle?

      • I know. I was only referring to the -$1

        • Ha ok.

    • +1

You can't use the voucher to get 10% off when you price match, but price matching gets you 10% off anyway.

      • Sorry, you are right, just read the T&Cs: 10% off is to be applied before the Masters Home Improvement price promise.

    Product details

Some reviews criticise the sprayer flow, but suggestion is to loosen cap slightly to allow air to flow under cap. Otherwise you will be pumping with the container closed & there will be no spray.

    • Agreed. I have had that problem with this spray myself. Losing the cap works fine. Also this can be used as an excellent weed killer as well.

    • +1

I never got this thing to spray!
I may try this tip, if i dare to buy another bottle.

Talking from experience the spray nozzle shipped with these are sh!te. Looks like it wasn't just me too

    Perfect timing! Thanks moocher.

I personally wouldn't recommend this product.
Have used it few times - it is useless (specially outdoor).

However I would like to know if there is any other alternative/better product… (mainly for outdoor)

    • +5

I literally purchased Temprid 75 about 10 minutes ago for my own home. It has a much higher concentration of relevant chemicals. I've read that it's the same stuff that pros use. Got it for $75 shipped from an pest control industry supplier. They have a loooooot of different chemicals available and can be a bit of a nightmare navigating them all.

      http://www.agserv.com.au/component/virtuemart/chemicals/temp…

That mortein stuff is useless indeed. I used it a few years back, sprayed DIRECTLY onto spiders and they were still alive hours later. Could've been spraying canola oil for all i know.

      • +2

        Interesting brochure heading:

The Temprid Zone - Introducting a Dimension Where Pests and Customer Complaints Cease to Exist

        LOL.

      • Tempting… It would be awesome if there was a DIY kit for this stuff inc sprayer. Some thoughts… what about kids, pets, elderly, smell etc… few things to answer. Also, amount to use, apply, where to apply, how long to leave it… yeah. Mortein is starting to sound good.

        • +7

I would also like to know if Temprid will kill of pests like kids, pets, the elderly and their smells.

        • DIY kits wont accompany professional products. You can get a sprayer from Bunnings for cheap. Normal garden sprayer stuff.

Its safe for humans and mammals generally as the chemicals dont work on mammals very well. STill it is advised to vacate the house until the spray dries. You avoid spraying close to pet drinking and eating areas etc.

Coverage rates are as per label http://www.bayeramplify.com.au/en/Temprid-Challenge/See-the-…

      • +1

Temprid 75 looks like it's good stuff. Might want to spray far away from bees though (referenced hereand here), we still need them to pollinate fruit trees and make us honey.

    • +2

Err, you want to kill all the insects outside your house?

Mate I don't think there's anything that will keep insects away from your garden forever.

I guess nuking it from orbit might work…

      • -1

Err, you want to kill all the insects outside your house?

        Yes, don't you? :)

I know I won't be able to eliminate them completely but I'd expect they will stay away at least for couple of weeks after the use… unfortunately it didn't happen.

        • +7

          Think of the bees! :)

        • that's the single most retarded thing i've ever heard, Bappy

      • +2

It's the only way to be sure.

    • +5

Alternative is Bayer Coopex sachets. $10 at Bunno's. Mix your own in a pump pack (also from Bunno's).
Similar ingredient (permethrin) as Mortein's Deltamethrin.

Used it few years ago on my property, nuked the joint, didn't see a spider all summer :)

    • +1

I bought this once before when it was on special at Bunnings, returned it the same day after the spray became clogged after only a small application.

I returned it and swapped it over for the Raid Max Bug Defence - very easy to apply with the motorised sprayer and it definitely kept bugs from returning to the eaves where it was sprayed.

  • +2

Any Professional Pest Controlling OzBargainers keen to speak up and comment on if this stuff is in fact the same as they use? Counter-productive for your business but hey you'll get loads of warm fuzzy greenies for your comment :)

    • I don't think it is what a pest control person uses. The stuff they use you cannot put on a shelf at Woolworths. I'd imagine it is a little more expensive and generally lasts much longer than this consumer stuff.

I have used this Mortein stuff before and it seems to work well. I switched over to something I got from local Mitre 10, its like cancer in a bottle, nasty shit and you have to be seriously careful with it. I forget what its called.

      • +1

Hopefully not Deildrin ;) I know someone who used to drive over the border to buy Deildrin in NSW after it was banned in QLD in the early 80s. They managed to build a mini stockpile of it and held onto it as long as possible. They applied it very responsibly and only in areas where insects could reach as it's nasty stuff and can biomagnify so you don't want overspray anywhere plus you have to go through a special process to clean the devices required to apply it too. They lived 100% pest free for decades however I haven't seen them for many years now… I wonder if they're still alive ;)

    • +2

years ago I asked my Pest Control guy and he explained the chemicals in there are virtually useless. it's too weak and diluted to have any genuine affect.
part of this reason was because of the safety and accidents with fumes or droplets being blown on to the face or into the eyes while in the garden. this is why professionals use masks and goggles.
on top of that if you have pets at home etc etc…

the guy added, the reason they are able to get away with advertising it as "used by professionals" is essentially due to the spray. this is what the professionals use and that's why legally they are able to get away with it. but the contents itself are not used by professionals.

      hope this helps!

PS. i wouldn't buy it myself as ants/spiders/cockroaches seems to reappear a week later

    • +1

Products featuring Bifenthrin as the active ingredient are probably the most popular products used in general pest treatment. Brunnings produce one, with a similarly basic trigger/nozzle. These work okay but aren't amazing, IMHO.

If you're going to do it yourself, either get a professional grade product and mix according to label or carefully decant one of these supermarket products into a cheap ~Hills garden sprayer from Bunnings… You'll be glad you did.

Please be mindful of your health and wear appropriate PPE such as gloves, goggles and face masks. Also avoid spraying when windy or high probability of rain… You don't want to get spray drift onto yourself or others, nor do you want your money & effort to go to waste.

If you get a pro around, chances are they'll use a product like Biflex, Temprid or Cislin for general pest. There are heaps around. Make sure you ask when booking (on the day is too late) what products the pest control provider uses, to ensure it is high quality and suits your needs. [This is most important with termite treatment].

Do make sure your furniture is away from walls so you/ a pro can treat effectively.

For longer lasting effects try not to clean treated areas of the house using bleach etc as this can nullify the intended effectiveness of your pest treatment.

  • Has anybody tried the Bunnings brand? http://www.bunnings.com.au/brunnings-3l-indoor-and-outdoor-s…

Was wondering how good is the Bunnings brand spray compared to this one.

    • +2

      "Brunnings" not Bunnings.

      • Lol yes. But still, is that any better?

    • +1

I'm using that on my house and it seems to work fine. I sprayed it in the corners of the garage, portico and all windows outside and yer no insects. I did a roudn of sprays about 2 months ago so will probably do another round soon as the temperature is creeping up

  • And what does this mean in layman's terms ? :)

Don't waste your money, this thing is useless. It doesn't even work indoors.

    • this thing is useless

      You know this because… ?

    I use this stuff:

    http://www.bunnings.com.au/chemspray-home-pest-control-500ml…

    Makes 20L for $26.

Have to be pretty careful with the stuff, as any pest it comes in contact with screams with agony.

Edit: Apparently lasts 3 months after spraying. I usually just do it in spring when all the redbacks come out.

    • +6

      agree, same ingredient as Coopex.
I also used this in the past:
      http://www.bunnings.com.au/david-grays-500ml-ant-and-termite…
again, same ingredients, but half the price of chemspray.

      • Hmm.. Thanks for that. I think I'll get the David Gray's packaging next time. I don't know if I enjoy the green /yellow packaging enough to warrant paying twice the price!

      • well spotted —- good to see ugly Dave Gray is still about

  • im pretty sure I saw this product for $10 at the reject shop.
Aldi also have a similar (house branded product) for $10

  • Good to know, thanks.

  • Great! Hopefully it will help keep the kids out of the pantry and fridge!

  • The Woolworths Select outdoor is better and also comes with battery powered sprayer.

  • Shishaw!

I've used this, can be bought at bunnings… so far so good for the past 1 month. crosses fingers

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bifenthrin for some extra information.

  • So what works then a few mention different things used the woolworths stuff last year not sure if worked or not did get the odd few spiders etc but maybe you get that with all was told coopex but the pack seems very small.
So how does this other stuff compare.

  • I have a dog that is kept inside during the day, is he going to start to lick up all this spray if I do inside?

  • +1

    "Time to nuke the pests."

I read this as "Time to nuke the pets" Probably why I'm not allowed near chemicals.

  • What's good for German roaches?

    • Get a pro in to do the job with industrial strength nerve gas, those little brown bastards die harder than Bruce Willis!

  • This stuff is rubbish and doesn't work. Every time I spray it around the house and all over the steps and front porch in summer, ants are all back within a week or two.
Also the bloody spray mechanism is cheap and nasty and leaks all over your hand.

  • I have no issue with it, been using for years -works well.
    I shake properly every time.
Still kills after a year if used in a continuous barrier in protected places and not disturbed.
eg. walked on or attacked by weather (which may be the issue above).

    Just tried online

Says it is half price only
    "was $32.24 now $23.99"
    I don't like their maths……

Is there a rep that can sort that out?

    $23.99 is not a deal, I usually pay about $15 :-/

    • The online price has been updated. Deal was meant to start today but maybe it still wasn't updated after midnight when you checked.

  • Check out the Reject Shop. I bought one for $10 regular price at Reject Shop Garden City a couple of weeks ago.

  • Sorry it was a little more than 3 weeks ago at the Reject Shop. Since it was regular price, it might still be available at $10.

    • If you add this to a Woolies order before Sunday with code W6CB72, it's effectively $9.99. Free to collect or set up new account for free delivery ;-)

  • I've seen it at Reject shop for $10 too.

I personally hate using this, though. It works for about the advertised 3 months (not really for ants for some reason but for cockroaches which is what we're mainly after), but the nozzle! Gah!

  • I applied it inside and outside of my house, so far I've seen a few spiders here and there and we now have a ant problem in the kitchen!

I don't know if spraying this stuff caused the spiders & ants to come out and say hello or whaa :(
