Location of store you bought from might help some people.

  • Wow, that is a bargain. I usually order from grocery run, they usually work out to around $1 when buying in bulk: http://www.groceryrun.com.au/search?query=protein+bar

    • Out of interest does anyone know any alternatives to Grocery Run, e.g. selling short dated products in reasonable quantities on the cheap, but delivers within a few days?

  • Can anyone confirm if this is reflected in Victorian stores?

    • Yes it is, although most have and pretty much all the good stuff has sold out at my store (brunswick)

  • I've just come back from an SA coles (Firle) and they had a bit of this sort of stuff on clearance. I think they're probably simplifying their range

  • No luck at both Coles stores in Brunswick Vic :-(

Try asking her out for a coffee first…

      • Want to go for a coffee?

        • jv is a he, you'll at least need beer.

  • Would explain why I saw people carrying boxes around in Coles (World Square) today.

Bulking up just became affordable. Thanks mate

    gains at your local.

Wake up, mgf84! Those bars are just junk! They're made of apple cores and Chinese newspapers!

    • -1

So is Maccers, KFC, Hungry Jacks etc

But we still post those good deals and enjoy the food

    • +2

Which is why I buy the Vita-Peach Health Log :)

      protein is protein :)

It's a Simpsons quote so probably not serious but while low carb protein bars are hardly a good staple, they're a much better treat than a regular chocolate bar.

For example, the HPLC 100g Bar: http://www.aussiebodies.com.au/product/hplc-bar/

      370Cal/1,550kJ - 45g protein - 12.9g fat - 4.1g Carb - 20.3g sugar alcohols

      2 x Snickers 50g bars: http://www.marschocolate.com.au/products/snickers/snickers-b…

      498Cal/2,080kJ - 4.4g protein - 12.3g fat - 28.4g carbs

So they're generally a better option. For a treat. Not for a staple.

      • +6

Glad some recognise what was intended :)
Goes to show my belief that there is a Simpson's quote for every moment in life has some basis ;)

      • +1

But a Snickers really satisfies!! (ps think u forgot to double the Snickers deatils - fat etc)

        • I doubled them for the Snickers. You're looking at the "per 100g" column, I think.

        • +1

@tantryl: You were comparing a 100g protein bar to 2x50g snickers bars. You should've used the "per 100g" column in your comparison.

        • @paizuri5: I considered that but I noticed the difference between 2x50g and per 100g and deduced that the two extra ends change the composition somehow. As you can't buy a single 100g bar I went with what you can actually get - 2x50g.

If you dont want any then dont buy them. Im Just showing a bargain for those interested

      • -3

        DOH!

  • Those are gainz right thurr

  • Can you confirm if this is the price on the shelve or it only scanned at this price? The same bars show $3.99 on the shelf at coles rose bay

    • just take one up and go through self serve, and if its full price say you dont want it.

      • Yeh was going to but too late, had to leave cause they were closing. I might try tomorrow

  • +1

Can confirm at one of my local coles, but no none left :) (Brisbane). Got excited then went to another on the way home but with no luck there.

It is flavour specific, so some flavours of the same product are on clearance and others are not.

  • OP, can you please upload an image of the receipt showing the date upon it ?
Westfarmers have an universal pricing policy, which means if one store does it, all stores are obliged to honour the same price :)
Well at least the last time the policy was explained to me, that was the case, yet open to being updated.

    • Yeah no worries. In the morning ill do it

Every time someone mentions protein I think of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N60utqXf5HQ

  • wow from the total savings / amount of spent, i can tell that this is a big big bargain!
    good work OP.

  • +2

thanks OP you just saved me $180

Can confirm various discounts for health/protein products at Coles northcote. Went in hoping to buy some Eno for the old stomach upset, walked out with that as well as with 21 375ml Musashi coffee flavoured protein drinks at 35c each

  • u would have earned 0.17 cents by the flybuys points!

  • +9

At the end of the day, this is just advice.. Eat whatever the f… You wanna eat!

  • Scored 30 x Recovery bars and 4 x Hydroxyburn bars http://imgur.com/SkOsdSc Total savings $95.10 - thanks heaps OP!

    • +1

      Was Debbie a nice lady?

      • Lovely.

  • Scored the last 47 x Recovery bars from Coles @ Blacktown (wasn't marked down, just tested at checkouts). Mushashi Bulk bars scanned at 3.99. Couldn't find the Hydroxyburns.

    All best before 03/15

    • There was two different types of bulk bars when I was there. The bigger ones were 3.99 but the smaller ones were marked down to 8p cents.

      • Actually the 80g scanned at 3.99……. couldn't even find the 90g one which you got which is surprisingly cheaper :S

  • Swisse Active bar is 2.69 at Coles Express St Leonards.

    • mine was ticketed the same, scanned at 0.30c though.

  • +8

Watch out for fat and sugar levels when buying supplements guys.
It's all well and good to eat protein bars but if you're adding extra carbs and sugar to you're diet. You're not going to get the results you want.

    • This is a piece of good advice and I just don't understand why it has received 3 negative votes? Seriously people, don't just buy them because they're cheap, look at the sugar content! There's a reason why Musashi proteins are much cheaper than Bulk Nutrients!

      • +2

Do you even Ozbargain? With an RRP of $3.99, I'm sure people are content getting these bars for 30c.

    • This. I bought this recover supplement bag that I thought was mainly protein. As soon as I drank it I noticed how sweet it was, sickly sweet. Turns out it's %40 sugar, as much as milo. And has barely any protein.

  • went this morning to my local coles and all were sold out.. dang! was too late.

    • +1

      So, how you goin'? ;)

  • Got some from Coles West End. Also had protein powder on clearance. Got Musashi 475g for $4.19 and Natures Way Protein Figure 400g for $5.20. Ridiculously cheap!

    • +1

Was there much left at West End? May try at lunch to grab some!

      • Mostly just energy gels for cheap, and the protein powders. Didn't see much for protein bars.

  • Coles Lutwyche QLD is pretty much sold out of all protein clearance as at last night. :(

  • Swisse $2.99
    Musashi bulk 80g $3.99
    @ pinewood vic :(

    EDIT:
No protein bars on sale at my local but up and go energise was half price.

There are 3 types of Swisse - you need to scan the Swisse Choc - Mint variety, this was the only one for me that scanned @ 30c, the others were $3.99

      • Swisse Choc Mint and Blueberry worked at my local for 30c ($2.99 shelf price). Coconut and Goji scanned as $2.99.

      • Thanks, will try again later today

        • They still scanned at the marked price.. Up and go it is lol

  • No point even going to my local Coles, there's only three in Mackay and I can guarantee that they'd be all sold out by now. Mackay is one of the most beefed up towns in Australia

  • managed to nab musashi bulk bars at 81 cents save $4 something. man they fill you up

  • Checked the Coles @ Unley, Burnside & Norwood today. All gone :(

  • None in Adelaide city store Rundle Mall

  • The Barracks - QLD - There are some Swisse Protein Powders left, no protein bars though. Some other assorted brands of protein powders, only 1 - 2 of each. Just picked up the last 3 containers of the Body Science Women's Protein Powder and a Musashi Low Carb Powder tub.

Toowong - QLD - Nothing left!

  • Was just at Coles Macquarie Shopping Centre. They had approx. four boxes of the Swisse Recover Bars (Choc/Mint) but one selfish person took them all :(

    • just went to Coles Macquarie Centre at lunch, the lady in front of me grabbed 3 box of swisse (choc/coconut), saw her went to check out and paid.
I grabbed one choc/coconut flavour to try but scanned at $2.99.

  • Woolloongabba Coles QLD, Nothing left, they were restocking with new products as I arrived. Blast!

  • none at the Coles Melbourne Central

  • No love at Coles in Ringwood, couldn't even find the listed products in the health food section

  • Swiss Recovery Mint-flavor is only 30¢. The other flavor is $2.99.

  • Nothing but carb/energy stuff left at Hurstville and Ashfield.

  • Thanks OP.

I saved $220+, did anyone beat that?

I only bought about a third of the stock as others became interested in it after they saw me loading up my trolley. Didn't wanna hoard it all for myself.

    • +1

$96 from the first receipt; $380.47 from the the second receipt, and forgot how much off the third receipt

      • Hahaha, nice!

        What did you get?

        • +2

          box of musashi bars
          3 boxes of swisse recover
10 high protein bars (45grams of protein in 100g bar lol)
          14 protein revival 375mls
          12 smallish tubs of protein
          2 hydration powder bags

been trying to gain weight pretty unsuccessfully so far, aiming for 3000 calories (13000 kj) a day but consistently not hitting target. damn this speedy metabolism. hopefully this helps :)

          ALL ABOARD THE GAINS TRAIN.

        • @gmail92:

10 high protein bars (45grams of protein in 100g bar lol)

How do you eat those things?

I could only manage a third of it before my mouth stung from all the sugar.

        • +1

          @Scrooge McDuck:

          havent tried yet :@

the musashi bars ok, BB DEC 14 so i better get a move on them first

        • @gmail92:
You wont gain weight unless its muscle and you're lifting weight from eating protein. You need one of the mass bulk supplements which have high carbs.

        • @thedude23:

What happens if I just eat protein bars and protein shakes?

Will I get muscles? Or do I have to lift weights?

        • +1

@Scrooge McDuck: You have to do some kind of resistance exercise like lift weights. Your body will just break the protein down and use it as energy otherwise.

Or take steroids/testosterone/HGH etc. with plenty of protein. While working out will greatly help the process you can gain muscle without it with the right drug cocktail.

        • @tantryl:

          Or take steroids/testosterone/HGH etc.

Where do I get that stuff?

        • +2

@Scrooge McDuck: Coles and Woolies aren't allowed to sell them. Try IGA.

        • @tantryl: The one on Silk Road?

  • coles Manly , Warringah mall and Dee why grand (Didnt have much - only some protein revival drinks or carbs bar/gel). Coles dee why on howard avenue had some hydroxy burn powders, women protein, mass gainer and musashi protein powder and a few carbs bar left) . I picked one of each and am happy with $100 saving

  • Coles seem to have been flogging off their protein/energy stuff for a few weeks. Bags of'Recover' for $10 down from $35 I think it was. Wouldn't be surprised if they scaled back that stuff - who buys it from the supermarket generally?

I bought some on sale energy bars at Docklands that scanned at full price. Fair play, the young lad offered up the scanning policy straight away… Free energy!

    • "Fair play"…..the Poms at my work say that all the time, but I still can't quite get used to it. Doesn't quite fit in with Aussie slang somehow?

  • Coles Churchill centre SA has the musashi bulk bars exp 7/15 but manager said "only some on clearance not these" after showing her ozbargain website, sigh

  • 2 Coles stores in Canberra(Gunghalin all gone but there's lot of gyms nearby so it would have flown out the door) Belconnen picked up the last 3 things they had on clearance (a lean choc protein, a energy protein and some recovery bars) 14 bucks all up.

  • +2

Some stores are playing the "These are a store managers discretion clearance item only" card.
Miranda had a few bars and several powders a few days ago, I left about half the powders.
Illawong had heaps of both, yet were not willing to sell at the price, despite a receipt from Miranda displaying proof, you may be luckier than I was.
Caringbah has a bit and played the same card.
Greenacre was weird, had several items, some scanned at the cheaper price despite NO tags on the shelf, some didn't. Didn't want to honour a receipt, nor pics of shelf tags from other stores, so there's a bit left there too.

Despite the policy issues, I've enough and will not pursue the issue or seek more from other stores.
Good luck and don't think they're all sold out, as you may find what I did in my travels today, the store hasn't put up the tags, yet they scan at the cheaper price.

    • +1

I agree that some stores didn't display the correct price but at the checkout they scan at the cheaper price. so worthwhile knowing the products that are on sale.

    • hey mate can you tell me which ones scanned cheaper @the greenacre store

      • The Acai recover bars and strawberry powder.
Other items that should of been on clearance weren't!

        • How do we know which items are supposed to be on clearance.

        • @tonka:
Have to ask to get them scanned.

  • Anyone know if this deal is still available?

    • I think it's still technically on but there isn't any stock anywhere.
