I never thought I would share this with you all.
If you are a loyal subscriber of WindowsDeal, you should have downloaded this 18h~ ago, but if you are not, I hope you too subscribe to WindowsDeal.
Tabbles is the kind of software that I have been trying to create but never had the chance to.
Long story short:
Tabbles allows you organize your files and folders by tagging them, without changing the hierarchy structure.
I believe this software will be useful for those of you who are a neat freak like me.
FYI, Windows has its own built-in file tagging feature but uuuuuurrrrrgghhh, I don't think I need to explain this.
Example of usage:
Without Tabbles, a movie folder structure might be:
- Movies
— Watched
—- 2014
——- Movie #1 [2014]
——- Movie #2 [2014]
—- 2013
——- Movie #3 [2013]
— Unwatched
—- 2014
—- 2013
With Tabbles:
- Movies
— Movie #1 —> (tag: 2014, watched, worth-rewatching, 7.5 <imdb rating>)
— Movie #2 —> (tag: 2014, watched, horror, 8.0 <imdb rating>)
— Movie #3 —> (tag: 2013, watched, action, comedy, 9.1 <imdb rating>)
The usage is of course not limited to only movies and tv-series, but also documents, music, etc.
Snippet from Tabbles
What is Tabbles, in a few words?
Tabbles is a tagging software that allows to tag any kind of file, emails (in Outlook), and bookmarks. It helps you to organize them independently from folders and find them when you don’t remember where they are, but only what they are about. Tabbles allows you to combine tags with a few mouse clicks, immediately finding the file, regardlessly of what folder or disk it is stored on. It even tells you what drive you need to connect, in case the file is archived on a disconnected drive.
A tabble is a both a tag and a virtual folder
Tabbles are tags that you apply to files and other data; but they are also special folders, because they can be combined, intersected and subtracted from each other, to create dynamic combinations of files.
You can put files in as many tabbles as you want, without duplicating them. No disk space will be wasted. The magic starts when you try to open the tabble and combine it with other tabbles, to find what you need in a natural way, without the need to know which directory or drive contains the files you need.
You can also define powerful rules to tag files automatically.
Review from pcworld:
Pros:
- Unique system of file organization
- Automatic rules and popups
- Explorer integration
Cons:
- Could use more complex filtering and tagging options
- Installation and configuration of SQL Server required*
*You can use their Cloud Server instead if you don't have/want to install your own SQL Server.
I personally hate anything to do with server or database -> it installs and stores files in places I would never know and they're very hard to get rid of.
I am currently using their Cloud Server, which means that the tags for my files are stored in their cloud -> it's slower but it gets the job done.
Once I am confident that this software is truly my soulmate, I will consider to install the SQL Server.
How to download (assuming you have never dealt with WindowsDeal before):
1. The provided link on the top right will redirect you to the WindowsDeal website
2. Proceed to click "Download"
3. Click "Proceed to Checkout" (CAUTION: next step is the tricky part)
4. In the first few seconds, you will notice that the part below "Your Order" will blink once -> you have to wait for this blink and then click "Place Order" OR the item won't appear in your cart and the site will give you an error message
5. You can enter any email (bogus/real), but I suggest you to use your real email and be automatically subscribed*
6. On the next screen, the download link is located under the product name
*Note that by subscribing:
1. You will receive (if lucky) an email from them once a day
2. The subject of the email would be the new software freebies
3. They might send you duplicate deals in different emails on different days but deal with it, it's FREE
4. You will find that sometimes the freebies are good and bad (a typical ozbargainer like me would download everything)
There are three main types of .zip file provided by WindowsDeal:
1. zip contains an .exe and license code .txt
2. zip contains preactivated .exe
3. zip contains only link to get license code in .txt
In this particular case, it's #3:
1. Therefore you need to go to the link provided in the .zip file
2. Register
3. You will receive an email to complete your registration and your registration key for the software that you need to download here
4. Install the downloaded .exe and once done, in the application window, go to Help > Enter registration key
There are some discrepancies in their version naming, but the registration key you will receive is for the HOME/HOME BASIC version (the one above FREE).
FREE only allows tagging up to 2000 files.
QUICK, this expires in 2 days and 8 hours!
PS: this is my 1st post
Thanks! Looks perfect for finally organising my
p0rnbusiness files.
