They also have on special a MSI 7850 2G DDR5 card for $89 for people wanting to spend less to grab a mid range card

    http://www.centrecom.com.au/msi-radeon-hd-7850-twin-frozr-co…

I bought one for a computer I'm building for my son. I previously bought a XFX 7850 with 1Gb and I'm very happy with that.

    • Will any other computer store price match like PCCG or Scorptec ?

    • +1

HD7850 similar in performance to GTX-750Ti. Was going to get a GTX750 from MSY, but will now get this instead. Very good buy!

      Enough for 1080p gaming?

      • +1

Yes great card for 1080P. I just purchased one as well.

        • +2

Snagged one! Not bad for $96.2 delivered. Excellent price:performance ratio.

        • +1

@grab_ur_freebies: I get over 30fps in crysis 2 with Ultra settings at 1080p with my XFX 7850 1Gb not overclocked. Only ran one Fraps test but it seemed to hover between 35-40fps. I'll do more testing.

        • +1

          @grab_ur_freebies:
if you buy 2 and crossfire it , the performance will be the same as r9 280x. with the ratio of performa/ dollar = 26.1 compared to gtx 780 at 257 aud = 30.9 . less value though, but if you never crossfire , this is the best chance for you to do it

        • Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. Very insightful.

I will mostly be using mine to SC2 with a projector at native 720p, so this card will provide more than enough grunt to run it.

I read a few reviews & forums, many say when OC'ed this will be equiv. to a HD7870 which has a passmark score of ~4260. This when compared to the top of the line GTX980 which PM score is ~10202; the HD7850 OC'ed is ~42% the power of the GTX980. Also considering the GTX980 is around $550-600 atm compared to this HD7850 for $96. Massive saving! So not bad, not bad at all IMHO.

This upgrade will last me a few years as I will now mostly go through my backlog of older games with lower requirements maxed out & the occasional newer game on lower settings (normally V-sync & AA off as they can cause a HUGE perf. hit; jaggies aren't that bad).

        • +1

          @Roly: l0l crysis 2.
          cute.

    • Nice find.

    • Got my 7850 today… Clearly used and has a very loud whine while in-game… Not happy at all :(

      • are you sure about that? If yes, chase them , keep calling them until they give you the new one.
Just make sure that it's surely second-hand.

        • +1

Yup I'm certain it's second hand, new cards don't come with dust/dirt on the HSF do they?

        • @viggenn:
Maybe it's because the graphic card haven't been sold for quite a while (2 years or so). That's why it's so dusty in HSF since it never been open.

You can just try to complain to them, contact them through email or their web , when they replied to you that they will handle it (which you have to wait for a while), just keep contact them (chase them) until they give you the new one.

        • @rodinthink:
          Thanks :)

          I've taken some pictures: http://imgur.com/a/5dDZL
There is a lot more dust inside the fins of the heatsink, but can't get a good photo of it.
It doesn't seem to be dust from age to me. What do you think?

      • Was the box/unit sealed? If not it's almost certainly 2nd hand.
Even refurbished wouldn't have that amount of dust in the HSF.

Also what time did you order viggenn? If you were one of the later orders, they may have needed to resort to using 2nd hand returns to fulfill orders?

I have to pick mine up from the PO tomorrow & will find out if its an opened box unit. RMA & refund if it turns out to be used (or offer an alt. equiv. replacement/substitute such as GTX-750Ti, GTX660 or HD7870).

        • The box wasn't sealed, it looked a little banged up but I assumed that was due to post. The card itself was in a static bag taped with some regular tape. The manual and CD casing all looked like they've been played with so after I saw the dust on the HSF it basically confirmed it for me.

I ordered on Friday at about 7:30pm… I've submitted a ticket, hopefully they don't try and get out of it by saying 2nd hand was implied because it was on "sale"…

Let us know how you go tomorrow :)

        • @viggenn: they can't imply anything, even if it was on sale. They should give you a refund. Good luck!

        • @ryang: Ordered one and found that the box arrived unsealed. Box was in almost new condition but the card has been clearly used as it too has dust. Also missing are some accessories. I've sent them an email to let them know of what I received. Will see how they respond. I was probably one of the early orders.

        • +1

I will be fuming if I also get a used one. If it turns out to be the case PP dispute will be opened straight away. Deception is no way to do business! ACCC them!

        • Discussion cont. here.

    • It looks like this card have been used by someone. 2 of the people who bought this (viggenn & Roly) have a similiar problem that the HSF of this GPU turned out to be dusty.

It looks like this deal (HD7850, with GTX 780,GTX 680 either ZOTAC or Gainward) turned out to be the 2nd hand GPU sale. CentreCom FTW?!?!? that's why their store rating in OZbargain turned out to be really low.
Me as a first-naive-innocent customer think that this is an Impossible deal since the GPU price is turned out to be damn low. I also regret that I bought 3 XFX HD7850 (together with ZOTAX GTX680 deal) & 2 MSI HD7850

Everyone , don't get tricked by this deal! That's why at first they didn't mention the item condition. 780 price is almost 50% off because the graphic card is already 2nd or 3rd hand!!
I guess that's why PCCaseGear have a really gr8 rating since they do honest deal & prioritize the quality of the service and items with very very reasonable + LOWEST NORMAL price rather than showing off frenzy price which turned out to be faked & trap !

      • This is the reply which I got from them regarding the GPU conditon:

"Thanks for bringing this to our attention. As we only stock new products by our manufacturers, we have been notified that several of the cards we received in this batch were manufacturer refurbished but we were not informed of this as it was mixed in with the new cards.

We are in the process of identifying the customers who have received this, as you are one of them we will be able to take it back at our cost. Under normal circumstance we would offer a replacement but support for this product has been discontinued. We can offer a full refund, or a discount on your next purchase due to the inconvenience.

        Thank You & Best Regards

Thanks for showing us their reply. Good to know that we can return at their cost.
I was holding off picking mine up from the PO as I wanted to find out if other buyers had received new cards or refurbs.

        • @grab_ur_freebies:
Not sure, it could be 80% - 20% , depend on your luck. I really hope that it's a new one, otherwise i get refund and buy GTX 970 from amazon when they have deal OR wait for another bargain from CentreCom but this time will contact them ASAP after the purchase regarding the item condition after the purchase.

        • +1

          @rodinthink:

I really hope that it's a new one, otherwise i get refund and buy GTX 970 from amazon when they have deal

Absolutely. I too was saving up for a GTX970 before this deal popped up. Will soon see if it's new when I pick it up tomorrow.

        • +2

          Update:

Picked up mine from the PO today…

NOT AMUSED! Opened it up & found:

          • ESD bag seal was clearly opened
          • Black shades (heat burns?), fingerprints & dust on card
          • Missing DVI port cover
          • Missing DVI/D-Sub adapter
          • Missing CF bridge
          • Missing Mini DP to DP adapter

Only GFX card, 6-pin power cable, manual, driver CD were in the box.

Clearly a customer return which they didn't bother to send back to MSI to get refurbished.

After I get my refund I'm boycotting CentreCom for life! Reviews don't lie!

        • @grab_ur_freebies: That's exactly what I received, a used card and only one accessory, all others missing leaving only the CD and manual in the box.

I must say the followup by Centrecom has been good. They have responded to my emails within 24 hours. Last one discusses a courier collection of the used card.

        • @Roly:

Collection by courier? That would save me a ton of trouble getting a prepaid label & posting it back to them.

Is whether they use a courier dependant on which state you're in though? I'm in NSW.

edit: Noticed that both you & CC are in VIC, which would be more convenient to use courier. Guess I more than likely have to use Austpost then…

        • -1

          @grab_ur_freebies:
You can try to sue them. This is a total abuse of ACCC (Just kidding). Crickey, I can't believe that CC try to do business like most Asian-CHinese Shop who tried to use deception in their business.

I reckon all of other people also receive the same stuff, there is no refurbished item. "He's pulling our dick off" so that we can calm down instead of fuming and spread the rumour and bad incidient to all other OZ Bargainer.

  • Has anyone had any experience using 600 series vs the 700 series for the Nvidia shield?

  • +1

Christ, that's a lot of video card for $200, or even $250. In fact, it's practically double the amount of video card I'm currently packing. Was gonna grab a GTX970, but this would be a bloody great holdover/upgrade to tide me over… hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    • +2

oh man i just bought a reference 780 a few months ago for $400!!! Fuming!

      • +1

Only few available. TheLandOfSmeg issued that there are only 2 video card available for 780 GLHC,780, 680. Perhaps they sell it with budget price (price when they buy in huge amount). This is only their market strategy to get attention to their website, so that people like us will look at their price item and compare it with PCcasegear and etc. It's like they try to get you as a regular customer , just like catchoftheday.com.au strategy, typical…..

  • Is Gainwood Gainward any good? Never heard of them.

    • Industry Computer hardware
      Founded 1984
Headquarters Taipei (Taiwan) Headquarter. European HQ in Munich Germany.
      Products Video cards
      Employees 20 (European HQ)
      Parent Palit Microsystems

There you have it.. Gainward is owned by Palit.

    • I've got a Gainward gtx 670 in my system at the moment and it's performed great for about a year. No problems and the build quality/look is a lot better than my old gigabyte gtx 460

    • Phantom coolers are pretty solid (which is really the main difference between manufacturers), questionable customer service.

You've never heard of them because their not big in the US.

  • Gainward*

Can't tell if autocorrect or…. Gainwood

    • +2

      My Dyslexia, thanks :)

  • OMG!!!! 780 for 250… or 970 for 330-50 from amazon -.-!!! Games are starting to utilize 4gb of ram =[[! sucks that these cards are at 3gb.

  • +2

    need a store in Sydney

    • +6

      and in Adelaide

    • and a store on mars soon

  • Seems too good to be true…

  • Das really cheap. Stores must be fuming about how good the 970 is.

    • probably the distrubuter telling stores to clean stock rather than the stores themselves.
price has been reduced for around the same bang for buck.
780 is slightly cheaper BFB but 970 gives you more longevity/bang obviously

  • I dont want to drive out to hawthorn and tell me they already been picked up though

      • +1

they will sell out in 5 muinutes

        • +2

Yep. I rocked up at 10:05 and the guy said both the 780s and the 680s were all gone. Must've been a few ozbargainers camping outside!

        • +2

@ironpaw: I'd assumed the stock was already gone last night, and the system just wasn't updated.. Therefore, I decided to sleep in today. Thanks for confirming!

  • ok in store only time to use a freight forwarder
    clever me

  • Darn 3 slots, might be a bit of a squeeze to SLi hmmm…..

  • Either the 780 is a pricing mistake or a fake flash job out of China, there's been some fake cards of late (but I didn't know they target very high end cards)

I think it's unlikely anyone will get any of these 780's at that price.

    • +2

Maybe they previously bought the 780 stock before 970's were released & now they want to sell the stock ASAP; cut their losses? The longer you leave it collecting dust the more you lose.

  • We bought a Gigabyte GTX 680 SOC 5 Fan Edition on the previous ozbargain deal. I am very disappointed with what we received, I wrote out everything in detail and then decided to wait a few more days to hear back from them just in case this is a one off mistake.

Has anyone else purchased one of these cards from them recently?

    • +3

Can you tell us what the issue was and how did they handle it?

      • The card is definitely not in new condition. They have yet to reply, I only ticketed them last night or the night before.

    • +1

so what did you receive? was it a reconditioned card? Are the 5 little fans loud?

    • +1

      Coil whine? Overheating?

      • -5

From what I received I didn't feel the need to install it. Its not what I paid for.

        • Why on earth would anyone ne LG this comment!? He's opened the box and found that the card is USED, he was mislead and decided not to risk installing it!

        • instead of making a stupid comment, he could have provided more meaningful information as to what was wrong with the card.

  • +1

780 for $250 is very good!

  • Grabbed an Asus GTX 680 for $199

    • -1

SHOULD OF WENT FOR THE 780 FOR AN EXTRA 50

      • +6

Could you buy it for us and deliver it?

      • I ordered online and there was no 780 stock otherwise I would have

  • Anyway, just wondering if this website have a great service or not. I told my mate about this unbeliveable price of 780 and most of them think that this website is either fake or perhaps a bad website. Compared to PCcaseGear (which of course have a gr8 rating from user), how come centrecom.com.au have a very low rating? Are their service really that bad according to the reviewer?

    • +2

      Nah they're fine.

      Somewhere between MSY and PCcaseGear.

      • +1

        I'd say they are okay..

Bought some seagate 3Tb's from them a while back, one was defective out of the bag, submitted an RMA, got authorisation, send drive back and waited 2 weeks with not a peep from them .. called for update, was told they will see where its at, will contact me back, never happened, so chased again, and eventually after 3 weeks got replacement drive.

        • Have had a similar experience having to chase them for a replacement part for a month+

      • +1

Dayum? MSY is worse than Centrecom?! MSY have 2.3 from 166 reviews 2.0 from 106 reviews. Perhaps the rating somewhat isn't reliable.

    • the only problem half their stock is "on special" all year and its still the same as PC case gear standard pricing, sometimes its still more.

  • Wow what an amazing deal. Must get one of these

  • Pity… instore only. Oh well.

  • +1

dsantos I said exactly the same, the GTX 680s have been EOL for a long time now, it would be near impossible for most companies to have a 'new' one in stock. Its likely they are selling refurbished or repaired ones from the manufacturers….

    • Or just plain used second hand ones. My box looks old and worn with "$150" written in black texter on it. Theres black fingerprint and scruff marks on the inside of the box. The magnetic plastic that covers the card was open (I dont think its ment to be?). And worst of all the card itself looks used, it is dirty and on the metal plates it looks like some type of liquid spilled and dried on it.

  • +7

    Sold out
Was 25 people and the first person bought the only 2 780s.

Only had 2 680s which went to the next 2 people

    • Haha wow at least I don't feel as bad for not going now

    • worse than i was expecting lol

  • +2

Found a GTX770 @ MSY for $299 (http://www.msy.com.au/viconline/graphics-card/13680-gainward…) - limited stock. Not as good, consider it a consolation prize. :)
