Red Bull Case Settlement (Receive $10 or 2 Free Red Bulls) - What It Means for Australians

There are a bunch of news articles popping up about the recent Red Bull out-of-court settlement for $13M (just Google for Red Bull free $10 or similar to find tons of info).

I was going to post this as a deal, but the website that has the online claim form currently has a banned domain due to 'not available in Australia'. You can see the claim form here: http://www.energydrinksettlement.com/claim

If you go through the online form, it allows you to enter an Australian address to have the the US$10 cheque OR 2 free Red Bulls sent to you. I wouldn't bother with the $10 as it's probably going to cost you more than that in fees to put it into an Australian account depending on who you bank with, but two free Red Bulls is two free Red Bulls.

You have to sign the following statement to receive the product/money:
(1) I bought one or more Red Bull beverages (Red Bull ® Energy Drink, Red Bull ® Sugarfree, Red Bull ® Total Zero, or Red Bull ® Editions) in the United States between January 1, 2002 and October 3, 2014;

I personally can't see how this is 'unavailable in Australia', as it allows the Australian address entry, and tons of people in Australia have visited the USA in the last 12 years and could potentially receive some freebies here. I also couldn't find any other discussions on this so feel free to point me at them if I'm wrong.

Has anyone gone right through and tried this to get some free Red Bulls? I can't personally as I haven't ever been to the States.

  • Howdy,

The reason we unpublished these as deals is because there is no guarantee this will go ahead and if it does the final details aren't set, as per their FAQ

The Court will hold a hearing on May 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. to decide whether to finally approve the settlement. If the Court approves the settlement, after that there may be appeals. Payments will be distributed within 150 days after the Court grants final approval of the settlement, pending any appeals.

If the courts approve the settlement and the matter is finalised, I don't see why can't allow this to be posted as a deal, assuming it is still available in some form to Australians, maybe it will be 2016 by the time that happens with appeals and everything? Until it's guaranteed it can't be posted as a deal.

Good you have made a forum topic about the subject however for any discussion / updates relating to it going forward and certainly people can register their claim and hope for the best for now.

  • The online form allows Australia as a country, so I do not see any reason why you couldn't register your claim.

I've got a few other class actions I'd like to see raised against false advertising:

    • Nike, sometimes I just couldn't DO IT
    • VB for a thirst that I often didn't earn at all
    • HJs, once or twice the burgers were actually worse
    • Apple, admit it: sometimes you're thinking the same as everyone else
    • CommBank, you guys have said "Can't" to me more times than I can remember
    • Nutri-Grain, yeah that's not what iron men eat

And Optus have said "NO" to me once too often.

      • Who wants to join me in a class action against the makers of "The Neverending Story"? We're coming for you Bastian

  • Ahhhh people … come on … thats what I slowly hate about Australia.

I sue you. We go to court. That was not mentioned in your Terms and Conditions … and so on …

"misrepresented the functional benefits and safety of energy beverages" … Functional benefits … like you can fly? Which idiot really thought they will fly?

We shouldn't complain about too many stupid rules and regulations, overprotective laws, … Australia has already far too many of them. And we will get more and more when we do such things. It starts with these little things in my opinion. Stop it!

Do we really want this country to become like America. The lawyers profit the most.
I hope there is not one Ozbargainer signing up for this.

Would be my biggest NEGATIVE vote ever and I can't even give one. But each to their own …

    • OBJECTION!
