  • Is it different to this one? perhaps no GPS support?

    http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_69939.html

    • Yes that one is basically the same, just with no GPS

  • So… these things still need a cable running to them, right?

  • Any capacitor version?

    • What's the difference between this and a camera with a capacitor?

      • +1

A camera without a capacitor would have a li-ion/li-poly battery to allow the camera to shut down properly when the engine is switched off, much like a computer UPS. They're not designed to run the camera for extended periods of time - they're only there to prevent data loss from a sudden power cut.

The problem is, standard li-ion/li-poly batteries get quickly degraded by heat, which means it's not the best choice in a hot car environment.

The alternative would be a large capacitor instead. It'll do the job and be able to withstand a hot car.

  • Do they offer faster post options ? want it now not next month…

  • to me it seems the G1WH is better quality? shrugs

    • Agreed. The Mini 0803 is similar video quality except double the price. If purchasing based on video quality alone then the G1WH would probably be the winner. The deciding factor for me was the overall size of the 0803 camera & mount.

    • +1

Yes, cheaper, but G1WH doesn't have GPS and is not as discreet.
If you want cheaper camera with similar quality, you can get Mini 0801 (this is what I've had in my car since January.

I will get Mini 0803 for my wife's car though as the price is pretty good now. I normally get my stuff from FoxOffer as his cameras are 100% genuine, usually the cheapest and arrive to AUS in ~8 days. He also has eBay store for those who prefer to buy that way.

Edit: Looks like FoxOffer price is US$89.99 for improved revision and includes hard wire kit.

So is this the model WITH GPS recording built in or not?
My reason for asking is i can't see it mentioned in the product specs on the site, just in the post title here, confirmation needed before purchase please.

    • +2

From GearBest site: "Mini 0803 1.5 inch Ambarella A7L50 1269P H.264 Dash Camera 8GB Super HD Car DVR 135 Degree Wide Angle Lens Video Recorder with GPS Support Video Play Motion Detection". Even picture shows GPS.

So yes - with GPS. Great price, but be aware that Mini 0806 is coming out soon.

I too am wondering this - the website (and description above) both state "Support Route Tracking via GPS(with External GPS module and antenna)", however none of the photos show any external GPS modules / antennas ?!

Just because it supports GPS doesn't mean the functionality is available out of the box. Can anyone confirm in this indeed works without the purchase of any additional modules / antennas?

      • +1

GPS is built into the mount (exactly the same as on Mini 0801). There are no antennas or additional parts. Non-GPS versions simply come with mounts without GPS hardware inside. The difference is usually ~US$6-7.

        Here is GearBest's non-GPS version.

P.S. If you are concerned, just get yours from FoxOffer. I've bought 3 cameras from him and they always arrived quickly and never had any issues. He is highly recommended on DashCam talk and has been verified by the manufacturer.

        • Ahh, OK - makes sense. Thanks for the clarification :)

  • What about this one: http://catalogues.repco.com.au/offer/vehicle-security-suppli… ?

    Probably no GPS though…

  • I actually have this and bought it after watching an aussie review it on youtube. Highly recommend vodeo quality is good for reading plates at night. Wondering if anyone knows how to turn the voice recording off because It didn't mention how in my manual.

    • You hit top arrow when camera is on to "MUTE" microphone. You'll notice that microphone icon will change to be crossed out.
Note that firmware bug prevents MUTE to stick between reboots (even if icon says its muted). Apparently this custom firmware has that fixed (I haven't got 0803 to test).

      • Cheers mate, thats the exact same issue I've got. Will have to check out that link. Thanks!

    • did you buy from gearbest?
