Hi everyone, I need to get a birthday cake for a babies’ first birthday. Anyone know where I can get a decent cake? preferably not too expensive? ( looked online but most places are over my budget). I live in Hurstville but can pick up from anywhere in Sydney. Thanks

Its not like the child is going to be the one judging you, first birthday cakes are for the Adults. Make it yourself, if your trying to impress the family and friends a cake made with love that looks dodgey ranks higher then a professionally made cake that looks amazing. If your really terrible with cakes, buy one from a baker and dress it up yourself with a theme and tell everyone you make it yourself … been there done that!
Thank you both for replying. I do agree the cake is for adults.I was thinking of getting some sugar flowers or figurines to dress it up, any idea where to get them online or from a shop?
I have used CakeArt a few times, they have a few spots around sydney. Just google around your area and there should be a few places. Go old school, bake a square cake, but it in half and do a little dicing to make it into a one, ice it and put smarties around the vertical walls and on top a few flowers or cars etc depending on boy/girl.
You can buy sugar flowers, butterflies, edible 'pearls'…etc etc etc from Coles.
Another option is to get one made, I get my cakes from Sweets of Lebanon in Bankstown, they make scrumptious cakes to order or just pick one already made. Highly recommended.
Is this cake to eat or is it for the child to destroy as per the latest Facebook craze?
I am not a fan of Facebook unfortunately and hardly use it.
$20 cream cake from BreadTop or other asian bakeries - it's nice but do note it is tiny!
There will be about 30 people, planning to serve coffee size portions.I had a look at Woolies and Coles, I am thinking of a bit more nicer cake. I also checked with few local cake makers, they are all starting from $150, never realized kids cakes are so expensive! I was looking at something like this http://www.cakeart.com.au/files/cakes-detail.php?cak_id=649
Will anyone know of a place where I can get a basic cake but with hard icing like fondant icing. If not where to buy reasonably priced Cake Topper: Fondant Animals or cake figurines
( love this place but don't sell there figurines https://www.facebook.com/CakeAvenue)
Your feedback is much appreciated.
Woolworths have pretty decent cakes of late, you could always fancy up a plain one with a cake topper from a baking supplies store.
