Repairing Cracked Glass of Samsung Galxy S4 - Melbourne

Hi,

I have cracked the glass of my Samsung S4. Are there any good places to replace the glass of my phone for a cheap price ?

Thanks,
Dan

  • hey Dan, the cheapest suggestion would be to do it yourself. Order the parts online and they usually come with the tools you need. I would think ebay parts would be the cheapest.

And when I say cheapest, they are over $150. Unfortunately, Samsung parts aren't cheap. If you're looking to replace only the glass, they are heaps cheap, say around $5. But the level of difficulty and the tools required is slightly different. The process will require much more patience and control. I would say the chances of breaking the LCD in the end would be quite high as well if this is the first time you're doing it. So you will have to go with the option you think would work best for you.

To those who buy insurance from phone providers, I would strongly recommend to stay away from them.

Eg: You're paying a monthly "insurance" fee to cover your phone, and if you happen to break the screen or damage the phone in any way, you will need to pay excess first, which normally comes up to $100-$200. Guess what, the repair cost from phone repair shop at times don't even cost $200.

One more thing, if you're intending to get it fixed at a shop, go to areas where there are a few phone repair shops that are close by. The reason being is competition will be strong, so the prices won't differ much and you will get a better price that way.

    Hope that helps.

    • If you repair it yourself you will need a heatgun to seperate the glass front from the LCD display (they are two seperate parts, glued together using adhesive).

  • I've seen it done for $80 with 10% discount for students. Obviously a third party fix though…

  • Saw an iPhone screen repair deal on LivingSocial or Scoopon, one of those daily deal sites. Pretty sure it was LS. Was around half price from $50 down to $25 or so.

But that's iPhone, not S4, the screen alone would be more than that easily. If you're handy can DIY.
