You're better off buying a GTX 980 for the HDMI 2.0 compatibility. It should be able to be imported for a similar price.

Yeah or even a GTX 970. Very similar performance for a decent saving.

The performance these cards are achieving with the amount of power needed is just amazing. My AMD 6990 looks like an American 6l truck now which goes no where and drinks fuel like beer. :|

      • As soon as the supply catches up with demand and the price drops a bit I'll be all over a GTX970 .

what a joke this card cant even run shadow of mordor at ultra textures

That's more the game being an unoptimized mess right now, hard to call it weak.

Maybe so but that's because it been coded like rubbish and needs 6gb of vram for ultra, so the 980 wont run it either like most cards……….

      • It is called…. Uncompressed texture for high spec machine. Not coded like rubbish.

        • no its coded like rubbish to use 6gb of vram and not look even close to some games using 1.8gb, so yeh its badly coded from console in the graphics department

  • Good card but hold out for the newer generation, it's upon us. Particularly if you're intested in 4K.

Off topic but what makes you think SoM is coded like rubbish? It's running fine with my 6990 with HD textures and everything set as Ultra. I get an expected fps of around 55-60.

    And 780ti is a pretty good card..but I would rather buy a 9 series now. (I own a 780ti as well)

Only thing I don't like about the Nvidia cards are their polarity compatibility requirement for Surround.

it defaults to high even after you select ultra if you dont have the 6gb

      • From what I read, the only time it resets is if you do not have the ultra HD texture package not installed?

        • do you have a 6gb card? if not you are not running ultra last i checked

        • @thelastnoob: Nope you don't. I can see fps drop when I switch between High and Ultra and benchmark either the 780ti or the 6990. VRAM has nothing to do with enabling/disabling a texture streaming. Having lesser amount of VRAM will only make your game stream textures and run out of VRAM which will get you micro stutters.

The point you are trying to make is only valid when you don't have HD texture pack installed. If you don't have it installed, selecting Ultra still runs it in High because there are no uncompressed hd textures to load.

        • @thelastnoob:

Curiously, the option for ultra textures is still present in the game, even without the pack installed - it simply defaults to high quality art instead.

As I said the last two times. If you do not have the pack installed and select Ultra, it will default to High. If you have the pack installed and select Ultra, your VRAM will not enable/disable the pack, it will just make your game run like crap if your system can't handle it.

Also, our game has a 'screenshot' mode. It needs 6GB of VRAM. We don't expect users to play in that mode (settings). It's there to load the game, take screenshots.
