Any diabetics after byo cup day at 7/11 last week?

Only those on the NDSS register or have complete diagnostics from a healthcare professional will be issued with these. Please take that into account for those who will give fake details. The Abbott system will check your details. For those that are diabetics read the terms as your info will be given to outside of Australia. Read carefully.

    • Also factor in the cost of the disposable parts. Often that's what's more expensive in the long run. I'd recommend talking to your diabetic educator for the best one that's right for you - both financially and medically.

      • Actually through the NDSS they're all the same price no matter which machine you use. So maybe don't talk crap that you know nothing about.

        • don't be so harsh, they just trying to help…

Thought you said "Tony" Abbot system/administration for a second…

A deal you probably don't want to be qualified for.

  • Still a good deal. But it's just a ploy for Abbott to gather our info. When I read fine print like that I never trust it.

    • No it's not so much about the info selling as it is getting you locked into their brand.
All the diabetic companies want you to use their machines because then the gov't has to pay for you to use their disposables vs. the other brands.
So if giving you a free machine means you use their brand for the next few years, then they just made about 5,000 from the gov't vs another brand getting the money.

  • The needles are $19 for 100. Nobody gets a discount.

    • +1

Everyone on NDSS gets discounted test strips and free insulin needle tips.
The only thing not covered at all is the lancets.

  • Reminds me of the simpsons episode where homer wears the prescription glasses that weren't made for him.

Homer: [to Bart] Lisa, just because you're ten feet tall doesn't mean you can tell me what to do.

  • Cheers

    Actually needed a new one.

Those Accu-check are free everyday at the local chemist(Via Cashback). You don't need to be diabetic to receive it. These glucose meters are the new Ink Jet printers. Strips cost $50 for 100 at chemist warehouse. Apparently you get discount if you are a diabetic, down to about $30. I believe everyone should have one. Keeping your blood glucose level in check, is probably the one must do thing. High blood glucose levels lead to every disease you can think of. With one in 3 people being either diabetic or prediabetic, it is a no brainer to get a glucose meter. Even if you only check once a week. That is $0.20 a week for better health.

    • I was just about to make the same point on the Accu-checks. I would guess that the government is reimbursing companies who sell meters and this is just a way for someone to make a sale. They couldn't give a crap if the unit ended up in the bin. As such it's not really a deal. Everyone who's diabetic is eligible for a free meter and have been for years.

I never thought of measuring my levels, but I might next time I am over a friends just to get an idea.

  • Just noticed. It says the Optium Neo plugs in via USB for those who actually want to monitor long term and don't want to pay up big for a proprietary IR cable and don't want to punch the numbers in by hand.

  • How can they prove you are diabetic? if i'm not diabetic and want to get one can I apply?

  • Interesting to see this deal on top of the https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/163472 "Free Cadbury Boost Nut Bars Central Station (SYD, NSW)" deal in the main deals section :)

  • The consent terms for this are a bit of a worry ….
