Seatbelt Extenders - Where to Buy & Best Price

Hi everyone,

I have a new bub (no. 3) arriving in a week or so and in the interest in keeping everyone somewhat sane in the back seat I was looking for seatbelt extenders. Has anyone had experience with these, and where would the best place to buy them from?

Thanks,

  • The seat belt extender - do you mean the length extension to reach far enough to the anchor point at the back for a wagon or hatch back.
think i bought mine in Kmart or Toyrus.
Also bought the overhead shoulder seatbelt harness for safety reason once baby become toddler.

if you mean these extenders -the top ones?

so that you don't have to reach down to the buckle as much?

    ebay -australian seller $16.28 delivered

I used them when we had 3 kids in various booster/safety seats. totally saves having to reach down between seats and finding the clip/buckle thing.

    • Exactly what I was after, thank you.

I work in Canberra and my wife is in Newcastle, the less she has to bend and try and find the "clip" the better.

      Thanks again.

STOP - DO NOT BUY EITHER OF THOSE EBAY EXTENDERS

they are unsafe - 35cm is likely too long and neither mention being certified to (australian) safety standards

        correctly fitted seat belt extender

        Best Practice Child Restraint Guidelines:

Seatbelt extenders are not recommended to be used if the buckle is located over the child. Great care must be taken not to introduce seatbelt slack when used, and that both extender and main seatbelt buckle are latched.

also by putting an extender on a seat belt, you modify both the belt system and the air bag system because of how far the person will be away from the air bag when the belt tightens in a crash

  • seat belt extenders are only safe if the buckle does not touch the body as is normal

most extenders are too long for kids as they're made for overweight people

a better solution is to have the car's seat belt replaced with a longer one, although finding someone authorised to do so is difficult
