Apple TV $83 Delivered @ Dick Smith ($78.85 @ Officeworks with Pricematch)

700
WICKED15

Thanks to DAOtmc for the coupon code. Added the Officeworks pricematch in the title as I was just able to purchase one in-store at Coburg for $78.85 by showing them the DSE offer on one of their PCs. Happy days! Doubt you'll find this anywhere at this price.

Make sure you add the coupon code WICKED15 to your cart to get the discount.

      • Hope it comes out by the end of the year. This model is well overdue for an update, it runs on the a5 processor.

When I first saw this post I thought WTF I have just ordered Eneloop.

But after tried this code didn't work with the battery if only order 1 pack but it will work if order over $65 :)

Officeworks will not pricematch after coupon price.

    • They did for me. I was in-store, grabbed a free PC, showed them the DSE price, and they matched… no questions.

I was just going to buy it from DSE anyway, but thought I'd try my luck at OW coz I was in the area.

Even if I paid $83 from DSE I'd be more than happy. Cheers mate.

I tried from officeworks Chadstone and was refused pricematching, that was some weeks ago. Depends on who is serving you i guess.

Amazon fire tv $84 + $28.45 (both usd) delivered via re-shipping service (hopshopgo in this example)

    • What do you think of the Amazon fire Lukian?

      • Will it even work? I've tried everything to get Amazon streaming working, no dice.

        • Have you tried via a VPN service Loopyloo?

        • @kearnsy:

          I use unblockus

      • I'll let you know when it arrives :) we use both plex and Netflix on an Apple TV and I've heard the plex client isn't particularly good for fire, but I'll see.

The important part is that it has a remote, people in our house suck at using harmonys. And chromecast is a no go for the same reason..

  • Good price, but mirroring from iPad Air, quality 1080p or even 720p (1.5gb ~2gb 2 hrs movie quality) MP4 or MKV is very lagging, the sound even lag for 10 or more secs. Low quality YouTube is fine. Depend what you need from it, could be a good buy for difference people.

    • I think it's more to do with the bitrate than anything, .MP4 files & .MKV have different bitrates, and i'm quite sure .MP4 will work fine as long as it's similar to Youtube's Bitrate of (from memory - might be wrong) 15kb/s. Most files these days are compressed enough, as it's quite standard protocol these days. (Bitrate to a specific value does NOT affect video playback).

Just out of interest's sake, why would you mirror YouTube from an iPad rather than watch it direct from the Apple TV? I watch high quality YouTube all the time via Apple TVs, and the quality is amazing.

      • +2

I find the app on the Apple TV does not have the same amount of content as what you get on the phone app. I watch a lot of music videos that you just don't get on the Apple TV.

Hi unity. I thought it was exactly the same thing. Have I missed something? If you search on either device, isn't the result the same?

        • +1

@tightarse: I'm sure Vevo video clips show on the iphone app but not the apple tv app, hence I use mirroring

          @unity1:
Cheers unity. I thought you were referring to the YouTube app on both devices.

      • Just easier to change channel, searching, typing but I don't mirroring a lot YouTube. The main purpose I bough AppleTV is I can mirroring every movies from my PC via iPad. But the result isn't very good. Especially 1.5gb~2gb 2 hrs movies Bitrate isn't very high.

        • Are you certain? What is the quality of the 1.5GB —> 2GB Files? (Resolution Please)

        • @DAOtmc:

720p, I am using oplayerhd if that matter. Got playerxtrme pro too, but I can't get it full screen on my tv. If you can help me this, AppleTV will serve me the purpose I bought it. Thanks

        • @stevelo:

Yeah, 1.5GB —> 2GB Files are usually 1080p for me at the suggest bitrate. So i'm guessing it IS the issue, however I can't exactly just tell you that without inspecting it personally. Best bet is to TightVNC in my opinion. Best solution I have off the top of my head, sorry I couldn't of been more help.

    • Depends on your network. Never really had issues with streaming video via airplay, my issues have been with lag in gaming, but its to be expected.

Yeah and I don't see this an overly a good price, its 2012 tech. You are better buying something like the fire tv for slight bit more, its like night and day between the two devices.

      • If I stream and watch the movie on iPad, it plays well without any lag, but it starts lagging when I mirroring to my tv via Apple TV.
I have a wdtv as well, it can streaming up to 6 gb 2 hrs movies without lag, so I assume my network should able to handle 2gb 2hrs movie. if it is about setting, I happy to give it a try.

I can't install the apps to my Apple TV, oplayerhd or playerxtrme etc, can I?

    ONLY ROKU

Thanks OP. Got it price beaten at OW for $78.85

  • Coupon code isn't working for me

  • you can also purchase the appletv directly from the apple store for $109 which now includes a $30 itunes gift card (maybe you can ask them to price match the $83 from Dick Smith) link http://store.apple.com/au/buy-appletv/appletv

just confirmed with Tamoor from Apple online store that we can contact their sales team 133622 to price match so technically we pay $83 and we get the apple TV and $30 itunes gift card or you can price match at office works for $4.15 cheaper but without the gift card

    • Called Apple on 133622, spoke to someone in Austin, TX and says Apple only price match larger items MacBooks, iPads etc.. And when they do its 5% at most ? Damn. $82 w $30 itune credit would be great

  • Is this available at a Apple Store at that price or just there online store.
