Looking for a cheap turntable to turn all my old records into MP3's and then ditch the records.
Saw one in the Aldi catalogue this week for $29.99 marked down from $39.99.
It says in the catalogue that it has RCA output to external amplifier or PC for recording.
I had a look at it this morning in the shop, but I cannot see how to connect to a PC (laptop in my case) to do the transfer.
Some of these turntables that have been advertised in the past elsewhere had USB connections I think.
Does anybody know if this would work for me, and how do I connect it?
Sorry for ignorance here, I am usually pretty good with techie stuff, but I struggle with video and audio type things. Seems more complicated!
Also not certain if this belongs here or in computer category.
The turntable should have female RCA sockets but you should verify this. You need an RCA male to 3.5mm male Y adapter cord and it will feed into the line in on a sound card/laptop line in. Catalog number WA7014 at Jaycar for $6.50 or cheaper on Ebay. I do this and it works well.
HOWEVER be aware it's a real pain to babysit records while they record. I've been meaning to find the time to copy the records in a few dozen little golden book records I owned as a child since my son was born years ago. Both he and his little sister are now too old.
