Has anyone tried the memory foam pillows, any feedback? Too bad you can't try before you buy or money back guarantee.
Look at the Dunlopillo latex pillows. They are not cheap, but you will never go back. You find them on special every now and again. They have a 10 year guarantee too (I think)
I've had a Dunlopillo memory foam pillow for a little under 2 years now. Bought it from Tontine in their 2012 post Christmas 50% off sale for $75. Can honestly say it's the best pillow I've ever owned! The medium profile did take a month or so to get used - was a bit higher than I was use to but probably because the cheap pillows I had always flattened out after a few months whereas the memory foam holds its shape. My wife who previously has had neck & shoulder issues and tried many different pillows to no avail loves it and finds it provides the extra support she needs. I also find I get a better night's sleep. Well worth the money you spend, especially if you can snag them for half price!
The Dunlopillo's don't appear to be included in this sale. If you can hold out until Christmas/New Year Tontine usually have a 40-50% store wide sale. At least they have the last few years. :)
I steered clear of the latex pillows because I've had friends who said their latex pillows (not necessarily Dunlopillo brand) had a strange 'rubbery' smell. I've never tried one though so I have no evidence to back this up.
No smell on our pillows.
We've had latex for the full 10 years, they are awesome and last really well. I always let new things air out and de-gas for about a month before I use them so not sure if there is initially a smell but there certainly isn't later on.
I keep away from memory foam because of all the issues people were having with their mattresses. Google 'memory foam mattress illness' or something similar to read about it. We are chemical sensitive in our family so it's not worth the risk for us.
I have an expensive memory foam pillow- hate it- forces your head into one position. I have an expensive latex pillow- too high but I can tolerate it in an emergency. I have a $10 Tontine I got from Woolies last time they were half price and it's the one I use- works fine. For me the shape is the only factor that I will consider in future. The material is of no consequence.
My problem with my memory foam pillow is that it gets too hot.
Its quite high as well, but I got used to that, the heat however can be unbearable on hot days.
no sale on Tontine I Like a Soft & Snuggly Doona quilt?
I've had a memory foam pillow for years. Any reputable store will let you test it before you buy it (even if it still has plastic protecting it. Each brand varies in shape, size and height so lying down in your natural position for 5 minutes in a showroom is important when you're about to drop $150+ on one pillow!
Warmer weather approaching, but no 'cool' pure cotton fill summer quilts?
