Free DashDroid - Safe Driving App on Google Play Store. Normally $2.99

4712

LAUNCH SPECIAL. Free till end of September. Download now and get all the features for free. App goes back to normal pricing October 1st @ $2.99.

You can download it at:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.dashdr…

It’s normally going to be $2.99 for all features, but for the new couple weeks it’ll be free as a promotion. Get it before they jack up the price. the app is pretty slick itself.

My review : Pretty cool with safe driving features. It does need landscape mode and it would be even better

This app is not promoting usage of phone while driving, its to minimise phone usage. If u use it u will understand

DashDroid knows when you are driving, and when you are not. When you are driving, it will put your phone in car mode and perform such features as:

1.App Launcher Screen: Choose from 10 of your favorite apps to use while driving. If you aren't sure what apps to use, we mean apps like Google Maps, Pandora, Spotify, Phone, Contacts, Hangouts, etc.

2.Block text and phone calls: So you are driving and need a reason to ignore people's phone calls and or text messages, this feature is for you. This automatically block calls and texts from disturbing you, and lets you focus on driving.

  1. Auto response to texts and phone calls: If you opt to block calls or text, DashDroid can send a text back letting them know you are driving. You can be as snarky as you like as the message can be customized.

  2. Unlock pass code phone while driving: No longer do you need to press your pass code while you are driving. DashDroid knows that you are driving and will unlock your phone for you, and once you stop driving, it will relock it. Saves keystrokes so you can quickly t̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶a̶ ̶s̶e̶l̶f̶i̶e̶ check traffic while driving.

  3. Auto bluetooth: Forgot to turn on your bluetooth before you drive? This feature will automatically turn on bluetooth so it can connect to your car. Don't have bluetooth in your car? Time to upgrade that hooptie. JUST KIDDING. No really, time for a new car.

  4. Auto turn off wifi: Most sane people don't need Wi-Fi while they drive. This feature will turn off Wi-Fi on your phone while you driving, allowing you to save your battery for more important stuff…. like Flappy Bird.

  5. Auto turn off bluetooth: Only use bluetooth while you are driving? Why bother leaving it on all the time! This feature automatically turns off bluetooth if it detects you haven't driven in the past 30 minutes.

can someone please explain this to me? is it a game?

    • +10

When I clicked the link in the OP post, I was taken to a page that contained an explanation of what the app does.

      • +14

But the question is, what does it do? Someone please explain in 500 words or more. I suffer from Internet Commenter Syndrone and can type from a keyboard but never read.

Actually, someone explain to me what this deal is…it's such a HASSLE to read.

same thing happened to me, very odd ;)

    • +3

Yes its a game, there's a level where you set a speed and you gotta try and beat it to win

Did somebody forget to click the store rep checkbox? :P

    Is this legal?

HTC one, and I believe samsung have an app similar to this already installed. But free is free.

    This is dangerous
People get severely injuried / die from idiots who use their phones while driving
    Mods should remove this post

    • +4

i think the point of this app is to stop people being distracted while driving and minimize any interaction with the phone to the same sort of level as hands free etc.

  • +2

how can you change the price from free back to $2.99? i thought that's not allowed in google developer console.

    • +2

The change from paid to free is irreversible, but you can change it from free to paid. The app started out as free when it was published, so it's OK to give it a price tag later on.

      https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answ…

If you change an app from Paid to Free and save the change, the change is permanent; the app can't be changed back to a paid app.

  • +10

Come on OZB… no more random free apps on the front page plz! Maybe make a rule so only apps with more them 100,000 downloads and have a history of not being free. $2.99 is not normal price, app has been free since it's release on the 11th of Sept.

  • +7

Honestly not a deal, the app has always been free. It has very few downloads, and the reason it is free before it goes paid is just to get downloads and +'ve reviews.

  • +7

I'm neg'ing this because the claim it's normally $2.99 is false. This was launched as a free app 2 weeks ago, and the very first line of the description at Google Play supports the fact this belongs in the forums.

    • +1

I agree, the title of Normally $2.99 is misleading this as far as I can tell is and always has been a free app.

    • Agreed…not a bargain, just free advertising for a new app

  • +4

I don't encourage any form of phone use while driving, so neg from me. This sort of stuff makes me miss green lights because some nitwit in front of me is too busy looking at their lap instead of paying attention to what they should be doing.

    Makes me rage.

  • +1

Is there an iOS equivalent app? I am looking for something that sends a text out if someone calls me when I'm driving. Haven't been able to find one so far.

  • Not a deal and promotes phone use while driving

  • Mobile phone use is banned while driving for a reason. This isn't a way around that law. Plain and simple, don't use your phone while driving (or at the lights if you're at the front of the line.).

    http://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/campaigns/getyourhand…

As others said, not a bargain if it has always been free…

    Smells like a sockpuppet…

    • +1

This is incorrect "Mobile phone use is banned while driving for a reason."

Actually mobile phone use is allowed as long as it is in a store purchased cradle (ie: not duct taped to your dashboard hah).

      :)

      Hope this helps clarify

  • Random free app that doesn't look that useful…

  • Random app. Unproven. Not a deal.
