The idea is that you buy a single battery / charger (as a separate purchase), then you use that with all your compatible Ryobi products.
Personally, I don't like this type of "vendor lock-in".
For the casual DIY'er (like myself) I don't mind this 'lock-in'. Spend a bit on some batteries but then buying additional devices isn't as expensive and still better quality than XU1!
Although the new 36V plus the 18V is a bit annoying, just standardise it!

Different power requirements need different batteries. 18V is not enough for more power hungry applications and 36V is too bulky for the others.
Does the product come with a power cord then? Or is it inoperable out of the box without a battery?
