Topfield PVR Ready High Definition Set Top Box $239 @ Good Guys - Record TV to USB Hard Drive

70

Record tv programs in high definition with this Topfield TBF-7120, which is normally $300 or more. Simply plug in a USB hard drive and select programs to record from the electronic program guide. Will connect to any tv via HDMI, component or composite (red-white-yellow) video.

It's also available online at http://www.insanedeals.com.au/topfield-with-ready-tbf7120-p-… if you add $15 for postage.

I submitted this same product recently for $259 (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/15841).

  • Is it possible to Record a TV show while watching a different channel? Also will it play other media from a usb hard drive?

    • It doesn't have twin tuners, but assuming your TV has a built-in tuner (which almost all do) you can just watch one channel on that while the Topfield records another. The other option might be to keep a seperate set top box in addition to this.

The topfiled website confirms that it will play several mp3 files as of the last firmware update. Maybe they can introduce support for other filetypes in firmware updates down the track?

Otherwise you might want to look at the $179 Allure which Clive Peeters advertised again in their catalogue that expires on 6 September, where it states that it's mpeg2 and mpeg4 compliant.

  • Not bad as in Target catalogue for $295. Interesting as just got a hd tv but my older dvd recorder/video recorder wont work with it so this is good as i have a few external hdd's.

  • and it is freeview compliant as well - good deal then

    • Freeview = a con job that adding restriction that you don't wanted like unable to skip ads

You not going loose anything without Freeview

record via USB? the shocking transfer speed…and for HD? what a bad idea, no thanks

    • I suppose that's the trade-off for it being one-third of the price. As far as I know it works.

Isn't HDTV around 19Mbps and USB2.0 at like 480Mbps? Plenty of room to move there, so not a problem from what I can see.

My dad bought this at HN in June for $269. You can't watch 2 different channels, but you can watch a different channel on the same frequency while recording (e.g. GO! and Nine HD). You need an external HD with it's own power supply though to record. This PVR is kind of like Tivo as you can pause, record and rewind live tv.

  • Clive Peters had an offer similar to this for $179 last month.

They had the Topfiled for $259. The one for $179 was 'allure' who don't seem to have a website.

  • Could Someone tell me if that Image in the Right top Corner next to the first post which seems to be an ad from GoodGuys is Real or not ,
As I went there yesterday & bought this settopBox from them & their Sale price was $288 or there abouts & I had a bit of a hard time getting the Sales guy to knock it down to $265 for me.
So it seems that this setopbox has either gone up drastically in the last couple of months or its a false ad or maybe it was a one off thing which I would have like to of taken advantage of as It says less for cash as well.
They at good guys in Fyshwick try to sell it with a Harddrive as well for around $340 which I knocked back.
