Just because it has a USB 3.0 interface doesn't mean to say that it'll be fast.. Price is probably correct.

I will try get speeds up tonight.

Only posted as the other 16gb 2.0 were double the price.

Speed was checked and it was USB 2.0

Both on my newish gaming laptop and macbook pro (both have only usb 3.0)

        Do not buy!

          How did you test them?

What do you mean "it was USB 2.0"? Was it using the USB 2.0 interface, or does it simply only reach speeds USB 2.0 is capable of?

Do you have the actual tested speeds (e.g. with CrystalDiskMark)?

This site indicates read of 50 MB/s and write of 8 MB/s. Not spectacular, but the read certainly exceeds what USB 2.0 can do, and the write is higher than most cheap-ish flash drives (that use the USB 2.0 interface).

Bought a couple of these today in Traralgon. Thought it might be a price error as they had the same brand 8 gig for $10.50!

  • saw them today but werent that price.

I would be careful with these drives… I bought two at different times and they both have lost data due to some issue. I have managed on all occasions to rescue the drives through diskpart. They now belong in the "use them to transfer shit only" basket.

I usually stay away from these weird branded drives if I am going to be storing anything valuable on them.

    8 bucks ain't bad.

Wouldn't even trust these USB's with my porn stash ಠ_ಠ

If it fits on this USB drive, it's not a stash.

Maybe the repetition is what floats his boat ;-)

I have a small 'stache that will fit on this drive, got it from a costume shop, looks like hitlers one

        • +3

          A 70's porn star 'stache?

What do you mean speed was checked and it was USB 2.0?

Its very common for cheaper USB 3.0 devices to have write speeds that don't surpass USB 2.0

Read speeds on large files should always surpass USB 2.0 speeds though.

Vaguely remembering owning these awhile back. The speed was fine, not really sure what your 'testing' actually involved. But I still recommend NOT getting these, as the usb is poorly built and break fairly easily. They feel tougher then they actually are.

    • Less vaguely remembering this, but thanks for the reminder nonetheless…
      Amery…~ie, i.e. Still a great song!

I heard from /u/speedyjonzalas that these are usb2 speed so no deal.

    • Just because it's usb3 doest not mean it will be any faster than usb 2. The speed is primarily dictated by the speed of the memory chips on board. A high quality usb 2 stick could easily be 10 times faster than a cheap usb 3.0 stick!

    • @putnum - maybe next time read previous comments and updated title before negging. OP has clearly stated it's not a deal based on poor speeds and performance.

  • Sorry guys, but storage is already cheap. spend an extra couple of bucks and get something that will work is my honest advice.

Just picked up one, pretty good quality. I can write it about 20mb/s.
    Thanks op!!

20 millibits per second? 1 bit every 50 seconds seems just a little slow…

  • Might be all right as a cheap way to record Freeview TV via USB. Need one for the new Panasonic 55 incher I bought during eBay Sunday 15% off. Worth a shot at this price.

Just make sure 16GB is accepted by your tv. My sony requires minimum 32GB For PVR.
