DWI charges 2% PayPal fee AFTER order total paid via PayPal!

I find & order product from DWI, paying via PayPa

he order's total as computed by DWI.
All well, so far.

Then DWI shows a 2% PayPal fee, & wants to send me back to PayPal to get payment for that fee!

Is this any way to run an eStore?
Why was that fee included in total, ie, before sending me to PayPal?

Is such a fee kosher, when PayPal is involved?

A quick reply is requested, as I've paid for order, but am holding off - before paying the extra 2% - & want to know if they'll send my order or need to be prodded to refund my payment, if I refuse to pay a fee not normally demanded & - AFAIK - not mentioned before I completed & paid for my order.

TIA.

PS This seems somewhat extortionist: ie, wait until I've made a successful PayPal payment of the order's stated & agreed total…

And THEN demanding yet another fee for using PayPal!

I would say that it seems to be in breach of the Aust Consumer Laws regarding pricing clarity but I don't know if that will help you much.

Great and all but DWI is from Hong Kong.

      • Yes, that was kinda my point.
The fact is that it really doesn't seem like there's much the OP can do about it - although I agree completely that its a dodgy way of doing business.

        • yes its dodgy but they know its better than paying 33% more from an aus b&m retailer…

        • The workaround was to transfer funds into DWI's account.

Free (ie, included in item price) shipping, & no fee on top of order total, although it might delay shipment until my payment shows up… :-/

Interesting that they have an Australian ABN. If their operating solely from HK they don't really need one.

        • So, if they brandish an ABN, they must want to act like one.

          And - if they don't, a gov't office may want to assist…

  • I think a couple of my brain cells just exploded while attempting to read this.
At least you're using less unnecessary hyphens now.

    • Do you use so much of your time commenting on font styles, etc. eg, as you read magazines & newspopapers? :-)

      Go away. :-)

Font styles are fonts like times new Roman and comic sans in case you didn't know the difference. Font styles weren't what I was commenting on (nor do I have a problem with it) if you actually read what was written)

        Love you too

The state on all pages that there is 2% fee (on the left sidebar under payment accepted) and on check out page as well.

I believe you used paypal express option. If you go to their normal check out page (use proceed to checkout rather than check out with paypal), they tell you about the the fee and it will be added to total.

It's their fault too for not adding the message about the fee again under that paypal express button. Not sure how hard it is to add the fee with paypal express.

I just checked my order with them from 2009 and was charged 2% as well so that fee has been around for a while.

  • I thought it was against PayPal's policies for merchants to charge more to use PayPal, but I may be wrong/thinking of something else. Definitely fishy if they didn't make it very clear during checkout total page.

    • No, it's against Ebay policies for their site, not all of Paypal

  • They could easily just accept bitcoin using one of the well known providers, e.g. Bitpay. Absolutely no setup cost and we'd have a 0% fee option that doesn't involve bank transfers and delays
