      I agree…

      • +9

Some people spend 300$ on a dog, some 300$ at the pub, 300$ at the casino and so on and so on… Who am I to judge.

        • +1

and some people spend $900 for a dog that gambles and drink in a pub.

          Who am I to judge?

      • PVA would rather spend his money on overpriced sneakers….

    • +8

      Ahh, yoof, lol

"it's $286 for a portable search light idc hoe bright it is it's stil only a portable search light man some of you guys (including those in emergency services, security, water search/rescue, farmers, hunters etc) much be loaded to put that money on a torch (that is of a quality build and at a reasonable bargain price) lol" - FTFY

Maybe not everyone on this site is looking for bargains on cheap SSD's and video games?

      • -3

Im sorry i didnt know emergency services uses ozbargain for their gear that they use.

        • +4

They don't. There's a hilarious testing and procurement process that would basically guarantee none of these would ever end up in SES/Police/EMS.

The only likelihood of this happening would be through personal purchases.

        • +6

While emergency services wouldn't use them, he does make a very good point. Just because a because an expense torch doesn't interest you, doesn't mean it won't interest plenty of others on here. There is plenty of people for professional or recreational reasons need a quality torch. He provided plenty of examples. The community drives the deals we have on here by our ability to vote or not vote.

        • You'll find most police have to purchase their own gear, torches, body vids and digital recorders. I've used gear from all the standard ones including Baggood. In general the items work great but are 90% cheaper.

          @4agte:

Wasn't having a go at him lol.

I own several Nitecore torches (check some of the other threads on the smaller versions).

I was poking fun at the stupid process for most EMS where it takes us almost 3 years to go from incandescent lights to led, and by the time we got them they were already out of date.

Meanwhile I buy a Blackburn headlamp that was putting out around 200lm and we are still using maglites!!

          Red tape jokers.

        • They wouldnt.
But Volunteer emergency services (fire fighters, search parties, etc) often self equip, because the 'paid guys' cant deck out the usual civilians.

Theres a reason I built an HID dolphin torch.

    it's like god-mode in Doom.

couldn't you just tape 4x $3 crees together and save yourself $275? but then why stop at just 4, 6 would be better ..

  • Massdrop just had this but I recommend a super custom modified flashlight for power
    http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?371949-V5…

This guys mods lights to such an extreme level it is absolutely amazing

    Mqssdrop was $240 aud delivered

  • +1

    has been way cheaper

    • Most ozbargain spirited post on the entire page, thanks!

  • +1

Please note this model is very old as the 3800lm version has been out for a while and this is the 3500lm
I recommend the tn30 thrunite on ebay for $139 delivered for a cheap but powerful light
But nitecore has better beam build ui

    • Haha…. you beat me by 3 minutes :p

      • No I edited my comment so we must have tied

    • +1

I sent an email asking about whether they are selling the old model as per their website or the newer 3800lm mode and they've confirmed it's the newer.

I'll double check the price and if it's a bargain, I'll put it on a separate thread.

PS. I've just received my Nitecore EA41 from them. Can't wait to test it out later tonight.

  • +2

You could get 2 of Thrunite TN30s (http://www.thrunite.com/thrunite-tn30-xm-l2-cw/) for less than that eventho the Thrunite is only making 3338 lumens…. I know its not Nitecore and maybe it may not be comparing apples to apples but from what I've read the review and from youtube they're bang for your bucks.

I've just bought one TN30 from local distributor (http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/thrunite_shop/m.html?item=3311903…) for (AU)$129 + $8.25 shipping which makes it cheaper than the US website.

  • Is that a laser or a torch.

  • There is also a tn35 for throw and flood combo
Or get a tn32 (throw) and tn30 (flood)
But best option is the modified lights

  • If you are looking for a powerful torch then this one seems to get positive reviews at a fraction of the cost. Don't know how realistic the lumens rating is though.

      chinese lumens

    • see what diode is being used and how much power is driven through the driver. These are usually under driven so the lumens are abit off. Not hard to make your own driver with better diodes though, can still make a brighter flashlight than this for a fraction of the price.

  • +2

do you use these so you can cook a steak 50 metres away?

    • +6

      … while it's still moo-ing

    • +1

you need these to brown your steak

  • +1

I have some nightcore lights and others. Seems expensive until you need a powerful reliable torch in which case it becomes more like a tool.

  • I need to win in Tattslotto to buy such a expensive torch. Not that i don't think it is worth it or that i couldn't afford it but there are always so many things where i need the $300.- more than in another flashlight.

  • -4

    first world waste of money.

  • +1

I need this for the next smart arse who don't turn off their high beams on the road.

  • +2

Thanks everyone for all the feedback. I love reading the comments about how expensive torches are a waste of money, never mind that I would bet those people have never used a high quality torch before. Each to their own though, and I don't/won't judge people who spend lots of money on things I don't see value in like gaming monitors and $300+ graphics cards.

Back on topic…I am looking for something extremely powerful but compact and flexible with a range of both high and low output settings. This comes close to being perfect, but I'm now seriously looking at the thrunite tn-30 or tn-35 (thanks u/thelastnoob & u/bajaiman).

    • +1

Out of interest, why do you want such a powerful torch? Do you have a genuine requirement or is it just a hobby?

I do think it's a waste of money. But like you said….people waste money on all sorts of things, myself included!

      • +1

My wife and I enjoy multi day hiking, camping, and 4wding, and once you have used a good light they become indispensable

I'm trying to consolidate 5 lights into 3. One thing that most people overlook with really powerful lights is how low they go as well. A good light with a sub-lumen mode is a lifesaver at 2am in a tent in the middle of nowhere

But yeah, mostly an accessory to my hobbies if I am honest

      • +1

And when you're in trouble a bright torch makes a good signalling device :)

      • hobby and requirement as I do a fair bit of wondering around in the dark.

powerful torches are not yet popular in Australia but is very popular in the States and Europe. Part of the reason is because they are a great self defense tool (not this TM26 model) but a lot out there are.

a lot of law enforcements and detectives use them and I would actually strongly suggest you to get a tactical light for your partner. high quality flashlights are very underrated self defense weapon and you only need to do a quick search online and check out some videos and you'll see how you can utilise them.

  • Edit: wrong reply

  • I would probably have jumped on this if it was the newer 3800lm edition
