  I don't use a smartphone, but why would anyone want to pay for a version of Adobe Reader when Adobe's one is free?

  That's because Adobe didnd't provide a free version for mobiles. You have to purchase it, and QuickOffice is the only authorized distributor of Adobe's version of Reader for cellphones.

    There's a number free pdf readers, not made by Adobe, for Symbian..

  My Nokia (Symbian S60) came with Adobe PDF reader. So did my Palm. I didn't know you had to pay for this on newer phones/devices.
