iPhone 6 - buy outright or plan with Telstra?

I am currently have unlimited plan at $40 per month not on contract.

I want iphone 6 with 64gb = $1000. ($42 month over 24 months)

The telstra plan of $700 calls would be sufficient at $82 per month. From what I can see it's basically the same price as buying the phone outright and paying my $40 monthly except I don't have to outlay $$ for phone. Plus telstra will give me $200 sign up credit.

Am I missing something? Any advice?

  • 64GB $700 is $86 per month

    Sorry unlimited calls 2gb data.

Will telstra stop giving $200 sign up credit if you. Don't sign up in presale?

  • Depends how much than 1k is worth to you now vs keeping that unlimited $40 deal. Telstra may also waive last few months of your payments when you inevitably upgrade to the iPhone 7, others may have more experience with this than me (I went the outright road for my old 5S).

  • Just do the math. Contract cost x24 months = X. Outright + carrier costs x 24 months = Y. Provided the carrier is the same, same data and calls etc. which ever comes out cheaper. Just make sure you compare like for like, dont compare Telstra 4g with optus 3g etc. I still use an iphone 4 I own outright on a $15 a month plan. Does everything I need and data speeds aint an issue for me. The day it dies is when I'll do the sums above.

You are missing the fantastic value for money that Android phones offer.

The day Apple make an Andriod phone, I'm sure more people will agree with you.
