Telstra Cable 100mbps 200GB $69.95 on 24 Months Contract

I wanted to get Telstra cable internet. I was quoted $93 for 200GB 30mbps the first time I called. This was more than I wanted to pay for it. Few minutes later I called to check how much their ADSL plans were and was told it is the same as cable internet $69.95 for 200GB. What? I asked what the speed of the cable was and I was told it is 100000kbps(100mbps). I signed up straight away, was sent an email that had a brochure and said it was $69.95 for existing full Telstra phone customers. I asked the customer service rep about this and was informed to ignore it, it was outdated and that I don't need to bundle with anything and don't need phone line. Modem is free, activation $59, and $12 modem delivery. I asked the rep to note everything that we spoke about for future reference.

My question is, why was I quoted $93 for a 30mbps connection initially, and 10 minutes later it was $69.95 for a 100mbps connection? I have a feeling the customer service rep may of made a mistake. Anyone else on the $69.95 100mbps Telstra cable deal?

  • I'm paying more than that for half of the quota. Which number did you call, maybe I should call in as well to see if they can get me the same deal ;p

    • I just called the 1800708867 number. I was told the $93 is with home phone line, but I don't need home phone. It almost too good to be true. I hope they don't turn around and say, it was a mistake.

  • Fully a mistake. That plan does not exist in that that configuration. They can't even provision it. I'd ring and ask them to email you a copy of the interaction notes in Seibel. It's not going to happen, even if they offered it to you, its a mistake. They will just cancel it.

    • The $69.95 for 200GB does actually exist according to a document in Telstra's website: http://www.telstra.com.au/help/download/document/personal-cr…

However, as zealmax mentioned, the price listed is for the case if you have Telstra's home phone. I think he got himself a decent deal, having the phone service requirement waived.

      • Yes it does. But not without a full service home phone as well. As I said, There is no $69.95 plan without Home Phone and there is also no way to "wave" that requirement in Seibel, it just won't provision in the system. (I'm not associated with Telstra)

        • Or Siebel, rather.

        • @domcc1:

Siebel is just a CRM used by Telstra. Only Telstra people (or those whom know Telstra people) would know this.

  • I just called, They could only offer me the $93 dollars with phone line or $99 dollars without a phone?

This excludes ; connecting the phone line (up to $200) and some other fees ( Cant remember )

OP do you remember the rep you talked to?

    • Well I was supposed to receive an email within 24 hours with the persons details and the interaction details. I have not received this yet :(

  • I just got off the phone with Telstra, to see what is going on. They confirmed that the order is with provisioning and technician will come to the house with the modem. There is no charge for the technician. It seems to be getting better and better. They once again confirmed that I don't need phone line. They told me about a deal for Foxtel, no install costs and 3 months free on a 12 month plan. Only $25 per month for 40 odd channels. Anyone have Foxtel basic package? Is it worth $225 for 12months?

    • $225 for 12 months? What the hell is going on and how are you getting it that cheap? My mate works with Telstra and he pays more then that. What the heck man.

      • Well it is $25 per month - 3 months free. So 9months x $25 is $225. No install costs. It is the current Telstra deal.

      • New plans starting November 3rd have basic package at $25 per month

  • Update:
Got cable connected, more than 1 month after the scheduled date. Received a bill for $464. Charged $99.95 per month for cable, charged for professional install. Connection is only 30Mbps and not the promised 100Mbps.

Called Telstra. They sorted out everything and credited me for the professional install and $30 for cable usage. They informed me that the $30 credit will be added to the bill every month bringing down the price to $69.95 per month. When I asked about the 100Mbps that I was promised, they told me yes I was promised 100Mbps, but this was a mistake and that they can't do anything about it. I will need to pay $20 per month for the speed boost.

So they acknowledge that I was mislead during the signup, yet they can't do anything? I was offered $240 credit, which would make the speed boost $10 per month, but why do I need to pay that when it was promised to me for free?

Can anyone advise me, what I can do? Who can I make a complaint to?

    • I would call the 13 22 00 number and say 'complaint' and talk to someone about it. Threatening to disconnect can often sway them. They've acknowledged they screwed up, so they should honour the deal.

      • I called them when I read your comment, it took me 2.5 hours and in the end was sent to the wrong department because the lady that took my call didn't understand what I was talking about. I was told I will get a call back, but have not heard back.

  • Sounds amazing. I want to get TransAct in my new place. They want $50 a month for 'line rental' plus internet. 500GB is $150 a month all up :(

  • Just got off a call to Telstra trying to get cable. The sale rep told me it's $69.95 for 200GB. However after I gave out all my details and half way through the sign up process, he changed his tune saying that it's only available to existing Telstra phone customers. Yes I did tell him that I have phone + ADSL connection from a different provider before hand.

He then tried to sell me cable without phone bundle for $99.95/month, which is even more expensive than the bundle. Told him thank you but no thanks. Might try again some time later.
