    Jerkaholic lol

… their normal price is $33/300g.

Or you can buy 1kg for $82.50 (the 300g bags are $110/kg).

Having talked to holiday voucher promoters as a possible advertising scheme with my own business… they seemed insanely dodgy.

      Jerks?

    • Yeah I think I'll just stick to ordering jerky if/when I want it. I like to order 1kg bags, and separate into 40g snacks bags.

Those holiday vouchers are complete crap!

    • +2

      Elaborate?

      • +4

They come in many many forms.

Back when the scam was new (many years ago) they would claim "FREE HOLIDAY" or "FREE FLIGHTS TO X" with every purchase.

But to get the free part, you would usually need to stay in a specific hotel, with inflated room rates to make up for the cost of the air fares etc. Don't know all the details of this one, but they were a complete scam.

I'd be willing to bet this is some variation on the original.

I figured these had mostly died out by now as they tightened up consumer law.

        *EDIT: found this http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowTopic-g1-i12334-k3751284-G… *

basically has people giving you their "holiday experiences"….

        • Thanks. I'm glad there's OzBargain… maybe Scotty could make a subforum with OzScams. And to think that it was a real deal - naivety :(

      • Your $2000 has to be spent via a certain booking system and it's hyperinflated………

Just saying as a small business owner, I'd be really hesistant to inflict these vouchers onto my unsuspecting customers…

  • Do you have any Jerky products that don't contain sugar?

    • Jerky will usually have some sugar. Biltong is what you're after.

  • +2

Jim's jerky is a rip-off and isn't even that good!
I get biltong and droewors (Google it) from a small local South African deli for $50/kg and nothing beats it. If you can find a similar type of shop near you, give them a try!

  • where you at koganei been lookin for a good biltong shop

    • Brisbane.
If you are too, PM me and I'll tell you where it is!

Seems a bit dodgy with the voucher..

  • What a circlejerk.

Does anyone know of any $50/kilo biltong in Melbourne (or Victoria; love biltong, will travel)? The cheapest dried meat I can get in Melbourne is when the jerky at Coles goes on special, to $3/50g ($60/kilo).
I've heard Costco has jerky, but all I can find on their website is some weird sounding buffalo stuff with fruit in it, and I can't go check it out myself because I don't know any Costco members. Does anyone happen to know if Costco (Docklands/Melbourne) sells 'real'/normal jerky, and if so how much it costs?

    • You could order from these guys: http://www.byronjerky.com/#!biltong-menu/chps

$56/kg if you order in 2.5kg quantity.

I've ordered from them before. Not amazing. But good enough for $56/kg.

    • There's a shop at Queen Victoria Market, don't remember its name, it's opposite Koko Black. It's a bit more than $50/kg though, but it's excellent! Apart from biltong, also try their kilishi, I actually like that better than their biltong! =D

    • I bought all the Costco jerky today. I'll take pics and write some tasting notes later.

Same price as just buying 300g every month (shipping is free in both cases). More expensive than buying 1kg at a time. The holiday voucher appears legit as they've been around for a long time, but there are hidden costs like being obligated to pay for meals, or every other night of accommodation. I'd be super wary.

If you bought 1KG at a time it would cost $297/yr, so the voucher has to be worth at least $99 to you.

I couldn't find how much it costs to buy each voucher (one site did mention $50, but it was old), but I'd be surprised if it costs Jims Jerky more than $99.

  • There are countless Billtong places in Perth due to all the SAFies here. I regularly buy from a place called Mufasa. It's real authentic Billtong. They've also got the Billtong bites which are affective Jerky strips. $60 a KG for good quality meat. I'm unsure if they do shipping though?

  • …and yet I had a feeling that the holiday voucher was going to be a sting when I posted this…commnets well-deserved! Personally, think I prefer Geronimo's Jerky. But there you go.

  • Got the email on the terms and conditions of the $2,000 Accommodation Voucher.

There is a HUGE selection of Hotels & Resorts to suit a range of budgets & it's as simple as 1,2,3!

    1. You can receive two free nights accommodation on the condition you purchase one breakfast and dinner per person per day/night of your stay.

    2. Alternatively for no meal requirements you can receive one night’s free accommodation and pay for the other night.

    3. Book as many holidays until the full amount of Getaway dollars has been used!

    • Those are on the website/webpage anyway. If you have a login, can you extract an actual list?
