Tyre dealer stuff up. Any advice?

Hi guys,

Need some advice.

There was a slow leak in one of my rear tyre and then had the tyre dealer checked and changed the tyre.

However, when I ordered the tyre, I specifically asked for 92W ratings because it is what the manufacturer specified.

They put in a 88Y which is 50kg less in rating.

They now saying the same tyre brand and pattern won't be available till end of Oct and advices us to go with another brand. So one side would be continental and the other side would be Bridgestone.

What should I do in this situation? Should I change both for safety? Or should I demand the tyre shop to do something? It is a reputable chain tyre store.

Any comments will be welcome.

Thanks!

  • how bad was the tyre to begin with? Usually leaks can be repaired for $20-$30. If it's so bad that they didn't fix a leak but replaced the tyre, the other side might also need to replaced soon.

But as you asked for something specific and they incorrectly supplied you, they should give you what you originally asked for when it comes to stock.

    • +1. Just had a puncture with a fast leak patched up two days ago. $25.

      • They are run flats :(

        So cannot be repaired. :(

        • Ah. Damn.

    • So I could ask them to go figure and don't need to pay more if it comes in a month later? May be I should do that. Thanks mate.

  • +2

You want the same set of tyres on the same axle i.e. same tyres either on the front or rear not sides.

  • if its a front wheel drive, should be fine.

most cars are front heavy, and when you break, centre of gravity moves towards the front. since no diff at the back, its not going to mind the diameter difference either.
