At AusPost today I saw they were selling "Good Food" Gift cards for 15% off. While these are for fairly pricey restaurants, if you are going to be eating there anyway, why not get 15% off? I wouldnt see why not.
Before you pay the bill, you flash your e-card. They'll apply the discount. Then they give you the bill.
Then you use your giftcard to pay the bill - they should be independent of each other .
They cant say "not valid with other deals" because this isn't a deal .. its a gift card that you used hard cash to pay for. So its good as money.
