glasses are a rip off in this country.

opsm is really expensive, the last time it gave me a $200 voucher and 20% discount, my oakley frame still costs $300 and my script lenses is another $400 ontop.

Went to a SE asian country and same lens cost aud250 and same frame aud350 (without discounts), before bargaining and before bringing a local to do the bargaining..

how much the plane tix? is it genuine, considering Asian countries?!

      • i just plan it as part of my holidays, last time it was singapore with that cheap scoot deal.

        • i'm guessing with that price AFTER discounts, you got the Oakley Gasser? Oh how i wanted those so bad, but they were so expensive, so i settled with the Tailspin

        • @andrew exclmtns: yes, i bought one in opsm, felt extremely ripped off, and bought another pair (different model) in singapore.

these frames have lasted me 6 years though. So in between whenever i travel overseas, I bring them along to get the lenses replaced/upgraded/etc, because it is a rip off to get lenses done here at all.

even budget places like specs***** tries to load you up with UV coatings you dont need (it's already on the lens, but they tell you you need to pay for it as an extra).

      • exactly lol…and whats their Intl warranty and post purchase customer service like?

        • just went back (to singapore) to get the original frame rubber parts this year. all up sgd35 for 2 pairs of oakleys.
Previously went to opsm to get the nosepads replaced, they did it for free, but gave me generic brand ones. They want to charge me aud10 per side of the rubber earsock.

make of it what you will.

    • My Oakleys (Carbon Plate) were $400, less 20% for being an NRMA member, then my health fund pays 65% so it was about $110 for my frames. I got my lenses a month later in the new year and got another 65% back on the lenses thanks to my health fund (one claim per calendar year). You're doing it wrong.

is yours a high index transition lens and a half frame lens?

as for you doing the lens in the next year, you are just gaming the system. If you see nothing wrong with that, I can even mention that I can accumulate claims for a few years and buy the whole damn thing 'free'. There are people who can do it.

and i might add, i've asked 3 OPSM branches (because only they stock the damn oakleys) about doing the frame first, lens later.. and all rejected and confirmed that it will end up more expensive.

so pray tell, which branch you went to.

        • So basically, you can get it for free, but choose not to? If you enjoy paying more then that's great, but you're also on here bitching about what you have to ay locally, when you claim you can do it for nothing?

I used George St Sydney CBD OPSM previously.
High index lenses, no transitions (hate them personally).

          @nafe:
gaming the health fund is something i refuse to do. which obviously you are quite proud of doing.

the discussion isn't about healthfund claims but the cost of the frames and lenses itself.

Health fund claims reduce the cost. You neglected to mention how much you got back from your health fund when you used OPSM before. Or do you just pay your monthly fees and never claim anything?

I'm not gaming the system, it was recommended to me to do it that way BY the health fund. Who am I to argue with what they have recommended to me to gain the most benefit?

Have fun up there on your high horse champ.

        • @slowmo: Lol what he's doing is far from gaming the system. He is using his entitlement that he pays for each month out of his pocket and the health fund allows him certain benefits for doing so each year. Its not like he can do it repeatedly in one year, its effectively using 2 years worth of benefits closer together. Its not abusing a system, rather making the most of entitlements.

    • What Oakley frames did you get? I havent seen any Oakleys over $400 before. I found Malaysia and Hong Kong retail pricing very similar so not worth it considering we can always get at least 20% off and health fund benefits.
