88 weighted key keyboard. Close as possible to Grand

Possibly the wrong forum…. Looking for a keyboard as like to a grand piano as possible. 88 weighted keys if possible. Please post experience with good brands and any costs/bargains. Thanks :)

    I use a Casio Privia PX730.

It's pretty basic and only has a few functions and instrument sounds. I don't really care for that, though. What I love is plugging it in with my headphones and listen to how good the sound it. It's entirely different when you play it through a get set of headphones vs unplugged.

I like the feel of the Casio electric pianos over the other brands due to personal preference. Others felt too stiff. Paid just under a grand for it a few years back.

    • I have a Privia PX150, basically the same thing but can come off the stand (this being a stage piano :p). Cost 1200 with a stand.

The keys are weighted but supposedly slightly less than a grand piano. I never noticed it though.

Aside from Casio Privia's (the other Casio product lines are not as good), you can look into Yamahas, but expect to pay about 50% more for something with a similar feel and sound.

here I'm thinking a QWERTY keyboard you type on. Ding.

  • How much are you looking to spend? Yamaha does some fantastic electronic grand instruments but they're not overly portable…

  • J&B have a weighted Korg on sale for $600 every now and again which looks like the cheapest I have seen new. Haven't tried it yet.

  • Thanks guys, at the moment budget is low (about 600) but I'm happy to wait for the right kind. Ill wait until I can drop ~1200 on it.
