Donating furniture

Trying to donate a perfectly good lounge set only to find that all these Charities only pick up items to sell in their shops & none actually work directly with families?!
l understand that money from donated goods sold is used to buy food but what of those who actually need specific items?
l've tried several organisations here in Melbourne & been told to put an ad on Gumtree…. which doesn't really work for me as I'm in process of moving. Does anyone have any advice? I really don't want to just throw it out

What about posting to your local freecycle.org group?

    • freecycle.org? Haven't heard of that. thanks will check it out

  • You can look up wanted ads on Gumtree as well. Search for lounge/lounge set etc in your general area, then hit the 'wanted' filter. See if anyone is in need of one like yours..

could just sell for cheap on gumtree and then donate the money to charity.

  • which suburb in Melbourne?

    • mill park

  • You can always ask your local church - if you ask around they usually work with homeless shelters and sorts.

Giving it to a charity to sell would have to beat throwing it away. Either way, it will be getting re-used. If they are coming and collecting it from you to save you the hassle I wouldn't be too fussed. If the weather is fine you could put it on the nature strip with a sign that says free, it may just magically disappear. Probably end up in a student house.

Or put it on the nature strip with a sign that says $50 and it will definitely disappear.

Thanks for the comments. I'm going to try a few of the local Churches. its too wet to put on nature strip. l just think it's really disgraceful that not 1 Organisation deals directly with families in need. Yes money is definately most important but shouldn't be the only focus of these charities.
