Free antivirus protection after trial period?

Hello,

I'm looking for free virus protection for my laptop? If not free does anyone know of good deal anywhere? My trial with Norton runs out in 2 weeks. Thank you.

    Like Steptoe said, Microsoft Essential, or Microsoft Defender if you have Windows 8, is all you will ever need. Uninstall Norton and all other anti-virus stuff, install Malwarebytes and activate Defender, and you will be golden.

    EDIT: If you MUST have a non-Microsoft solution, AVG is the next best thing.

    Windows - Avast, Panda Cloud

    It's good to have all that anti-virus software but remember the best defence against any kind of malware is your mind. Use your common sense when you choose to download files off the internet. Same thing for clicking on links.

    My suggestion is to purchase the premium version of MBAM (https://www.malwarebytes.org/). The free version is great for scanning files however it doesn't work real time.

    Definitely Microsoft Security Essentials. It is free for licensed windows and I have been running it for over 2 years. No problem at all.
